I received a confirmation from Laguna Shores today, and it came with a map. Looks like 218 is a corner unit, and is tucked behind unit 223. Unit 223 is ocean front, and on an angle, so it doesn't appear to totally block out unit 218.....I'm hoping for the best.
BTW, what's with the tax situation on CA timeshares? It says that I need to pay $15.60 a day for taxes. Is that normal? I didn't have to pay any taxes when I stayed at the Westin in Rancho Mirage.
I'm trying to remember if we paid taxes at the Coronado Beach Resport this year. I'll look back at my credit card bills and see.
Just checked. The only "fees" we paid at Coronado was the parking. So no, I don't think the charge for taxes is normal for California.

Yes California, like Hawaii ,charges a transient tax for exchangers ( not owners ). Laguna Beach having one of the highest daily rates. I paid just under $110 on check-out yesterday. None of this money goes to the resort directly to the town coffers.
Worth it. 218 does have a view. I would bet first floor would be blocked by the park.

Hmmm, then I wonder why we didn't pay anything when we stayed in Coronado. Do you think maybe it's by county?
I googled and found this, so maybe it is different by area:
(a) The legislative body of any city, county, or city and county may levy a tax on the privilege of occupying a room or rooms, or other living space, in a hotel, inn, tourist home or house, motel, or other lodging unless the occupancy is for a period of more than 30 days. The tax, when levied by the legislative body of a county, applies only to the unincorporated areas of the county.

Yeah, that's what I would have to pay as well. OK, no problem, I was just curious.
Luanne,
I didn't pay any tax fee at the Westin, either, and I don't own there.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Yes it differs by county and state. Maybe even by town. We didn't pay it in SFO but have paid it both times at Laguna Surf. Front Desk said it goes up $1/day every year. Which makes sense as I remember it being about $10 last time I stayed at that specific property.
DH did not pay it at Riviera Beach or the place in La Jolla last November and he would definately mention it if he had.

You won't pay it at FSA if that is any consolation Ang ....but I have to agree -that just adds on to what you paid for your exchange...makes it hard to compare apples to apples when pricing hotels for the same time.
Of course, you all are from New York....good grief what they add on in the city!
Laguna Beach does charge a tax for non-owners. I have never known how much it is but it makes many exchangers very unhappy. Since we don't pay it, I had forgotton about it but not in Maui. There we pay RE property taxes as well as a transient occupancy tax or bed tax. I wouldn't be surprised if some other cities are going to do this too. I still don't know if this is by city or by county. Does anyone else know who exchanges to this area?

Well, that's good to know, anyway. I figured that I was going to get hit with a similar charge at FSA.

If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure it's just the Laguna area. I know for sure there is no transient tax at the Newport Beach, Anaheim, Capistrano Beach, Calsbad, San Clemente and Solana Beach timeshares. We've stayed there as exchangers or as owners. I'm not sure about Oceanside but I don't think there is.
I think the Californians are just picking on Angela by charging her that tax.
So here are the cousins - 19 out of 21 of us.
Starting at the top left corner, I am the first girl - 4 boys then me! My brother is directly to the right behind me with the 'Billy Joel' beard ....my sister left early before the picture
The guy all the way to the right with the red shirt is Big Franks friend from his church, my cousin John from the wine tasting.
Behind us is the refrigerator truck my cousin had to rent because he couldn't rent refrigerators - several of the cousins prepared all the food for 80 people.
And what does anyone know about the Lawrence Welk resorts - I was thinking of going in April???
GrayFal, I don't know if they charge this TOT at the Lawrence Welk resort but I did some further research because I remembered that there was also a resort in the CA desert that charged this TOT. I found the two links again. Here is the one from Indio and here is the one about a resort in the wine country. Both are Worldmark (Wyndham) resorts and if you read post #9, you can see that the developer wanted this tax to minimize his own development costs. I can expect anything from the Government but from a developer too?
