  • Greetings from Lagonita Lodge in Big Bear!

Arrived Friday night. This place is A-Ok! I am actually surprised. I have what is one of the crappier rooms-just in location not the room itself-but I can still see the lake and well, the parking lot, and my neighbors. I picked this up 5 days before check in from DAE (bonus week) and the resort is full-so what do you do?

Woke up to rolling thunder this morning...going to be having some monsoonal moisture

Went to a big chili cook off yesterday..small town fun.

This resort is nearly 25 years old but very well kept. I forgot it had been through an earthquake in 1992. Don't know how I forgot for I went through it too...Was my first night home with a new baby-an interesting way to start your young life...but anyway.

    I'll do a review when I return.

Lawren, I really think you would have liked it here had you kept it. They have a Jack's right there in the Village-you would have been all set

and I had a lakefront unit too!

Now that I know Jacks is close by it is on the hit list for sure!

Hope the monsoons pass quickly and you have a great and CHEAP week on the lake.
    Lawren

Hope the weather clears up soon, and you have a terrific week. Thanks for checking in, and letting Lawren know about the Jacks. She has a map at home, and is marking off all of their locations.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Have fun. I haven't been to Big Bear in years! As a child we spent more time at Lake Arrowhead since we had friends who lived there part of the year. It was great fun as a kid.

Great to hear. I just booked my brother into this place in very early September with an AC.

I always see this 'poping' up - so it is on a lake a surrounded by beautiful mountains????
            Sounds like heaven!

Early Sept should be nice...maybe even chilly at night. Is it just him or a family? I ask because I assume it's a one bed. We are a family of four...two teens and it's a bit tight. Part of that is because we are using an air bed in addition to the sleeper sofa and I believe we have one of the smaller 1bds. There are different configurations...I walked by one room that was being cleaned and the bedroom had a sitting chair next to the bed...I don't have room for a chair-but I do have a window seat with storage underneath.

Don't fret though-it's not a matter of exchangers getting the worst unit-because I sent two different families here last month and one had a fabulous unit with an unobstructed lake view.

There are only 6 or 8 2bds and 2 3bds here. There are 1bd 2 ba units-so maybe he will get lucky.

Yes, it is. Only mistake we made was not bringing our boat. Got all caught up in gas prices, blah blah blah and decided not to. Boy, is it hard to look out at that lake and not be on it. The resort does rent boats...from fishing boats on up to large pontons as well as offer lake cruises a few times a week for 10.00 for 2 hours.

But, word to bnoble-have your brother sign up for what ever activity he would like to do early...like right away when he checks in-go to the wine and cheese reception and start signing up-things get full very fast-especially
the lake cruises. Lot's of other cool things...like an off road adventure and other simplier things..including pancake breakfasts and root beer floats.

Like I said before, I'm just really surprised at how well run and active it is here.

Just him and his wife, so a small 1BR should be fine. I'll let him know about the activities sign-up---good advice.

                        Next time bring the boat.

Lawren, I remember I posted or told you on the phone to go. It is such a contrast from the beach scene. We love that location and also Lake Arrowhead. We like it in winter, fall and spring when the schools are not out. When we get our fist little bit of snow, many locals go there to see it or play in the snow. Traffic can be bad on the week-ends.

                          Tracy,

I assume you did OK with your drive up there. Enjoy your week, you lucky girl and say hi to your daughter.

                              Emmy,

I didn't have to drive myself....I do ok as a passenger. But, guess what? My DH and son needed to go back down the hill on Sat to attend an already planned function. My DD and I stayed in Big Bear. When they got home-My DH informed me that he let my son drive the whole way home They only tell me this after the fact so I won't protest. In the morning it was thundering and raining so I called and told DH-do NOT let him drive back up! Thank goodness he listened. He needs the driving experience-but it's just better that I am in not in the car for a mountain drive by my son.
