  • Reasonable accomodations around LAX

Will be traveling out to So Cal for week at Marriott Shadow Ridge in October
and extending my trip a couple days to visit my son in Hermosa Beach. We arrive late Friday evening and have to hang around LAX area to pick up friends who are joining us at airport Saturday AM. Looking for reasonably
price place to sleep the nights of 10/10, 1018, and 10/19. Would likle to be somewhere in the LAX - Hermosa Beach area. Anyone know of any hotels, motels, B&B's that I dont have to remortgage my house for????
    Appreciate everyone's help
    Thanks,
    Paul

If it were me, I'd use Cheap Flights, Hotels, and Rental Cars -- Discount Airfare | Priceline.com Do your research first on BiddingForTravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum At the first of each city listing, they have a list of hotels Priceline uses in each part of the city and the *ranking for each hotel. After you know what hotels you are looking at as possibilities, go to their forum and see what people say they have bid and had accepted by Priceline.com You'll save a lot of money. It's true you won't know exactly which hotel until after the bid is accepted, but you'll know the location within a few blocks and you'll know the *level and you'll know it will be one of 3-5 hotels you already know the names of. You really can't lose.

      Paul,

I like the Doubletree LAX in El Segundo. We use them for Sleep/Park/Fly. Very reasonable...good proximity to LAX with shuttles every 1/2 hour. Well kept and nestled in a business area next to Mattel. Net rates start at 107.00 for your dates. We were there in June and drove down to Manhattan Beach for dinner. Very close.

I got a great rate at the Marriott Renaissance hotel last Oct for about $100 per night. Great deal, right by the rental car places.

            Paul,

I can understand staying at/near airport the one night but TWO? Two nights in LAX shows true masochistics tendencies on anyones part. The only thing I could think of that might be worse is actually staying in downtown LA.

$150/night includes breakfast. Maybe 30 minutes from LAX.

Thanks to all who responded....first night I want to stay around LAX because it will be 2:00 am east coast time when we we arrive (11PM PDT) and we will already be half asleep..... Last 2 nights I'd like to spend around Manhattan/Hermosa Beach area so I dont have
to do a lot of driving the 2 days I am visiting DS. Actually, Lawren, my wife and I had lunch on the Queen Mary last year when we visited my son. Its a good half hour to get back to Hermosa....Thanks again to all who responded....some good leads to pursue....
              Best wishes,
              Paul

I second the notion of using Priceline or Hotwire for accommodations. I've used both services with great success for overnight stays near LAX. In that area, though, I would focus heavily on 4* ratings (especially with Hotwire, since HW tends to be more generous in its facility ratings).

I wouldn't take 3* from either service near LAX without first having a good understanding (via Bidding for Travel or Better Bidding) of what properties I would be likely to obtain through those services.

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

Having stayed down there prior to trips we have stayed at the Hilton, The Westin and the Doubletree All were close to LAX and had Park and Fly's. The main thing I would stay WEST of the 405 Not East of it. Also I helped one of men I work with book a room at a Marriot in Manhattan Beach that they said was very nice.

I lived at the Town Place Suites (Marriott) Manhattan Beach (it's actually located very close to the Manhattan Beach/Hawthorne city limits) for several months in 2004. Also stayed at the SpringHill Suites next door. TownPlace Suites is very plain, but had a kitchen. SpringHill Suites was a little better, but only has a microwave and mini-fridge which is all you would need for 2 nights. At the time, they had a special negotiated taxi rate to LAX for $12 -- a good deal. I've also stayed at the Marriott Manhattan Beach which is not far away. You might be able to get some off-season rates since you will be there in October. All of those locations are 15 minutes from the airport by side roads. You don't have to take I-405. It took me weeks to figure out that CSI Miami is filmed at the credit union building between the Town Place Suites and SpringHill Suites --- I wondered why there were multiple trailers there during the day...

I loved being a very short drive to Trader Joe's.
