  • Why Aviara is so highly rated...

It's all the little things that make it so wonderful.

I just returned from my second exchange into this awesome resort and I'm still amazed by the outstanding service. There are some things that other resorts have that some folks find lacking at Aviara. The pools aren't festooned with waterslides & lazy rivers. But even though many parents seem to think these are neccessary to make their kids happy I have yet to meet a child who isn't perfectly happy with any pool. Aviara's are heated to a nice temperature year round and always have plenty of comfy lounges both sunny and shadey. (No lounge hogs in sight!) Many people want a resort where the sand & waves are right outside your door. Aviara isn't on a beach but then beach resorts in Calif. are few and far between and most are quite small and old. Coastal land in California sells for zillions of $$. But the views from a villa at Aviara are expansive with rolling hills and even some glimpses of the ocean.

It's not the location that makes Aviara outstanding although Carlsbad is a central location for all the great stuff to see and do in So.Ca. What sets Aviara way above the rest is all the little touches. A daily paper is delivered to your door. Not that dorky USA Today but the local San Diego paper. There are clean, working gas barbeques scattered throughout the resort. They always light on the first try! There are quality knives in the kitchens that are kept sharpened. Any small appliance you may need is available including coffee grinder, mixer. etc. Everything works; the stove, the oven, the dishwasher, etc. There are no burned out lightbulbs anywhere. There are flat screen TVs in all bedrooms. The towels are large, fluffy and white. The bed linens are top quality. There are 4 pillows on the beds for those of us who love to read and nice lamps for reading. The beds are really comfortable. The water pressure is great and there is plenty of hot water. High end toiletries are provided all week. There is a closet and drawer space in the living area for those who may be using the sofabed. There is plenty of detergent and softener for several loads provided with the washer & dryer.(And more available free if you need it.) If you are staying in a studio unit laundry rooms are provided with free use and free supplies as well. The coffee provided is really good (not that burnt tasting Starbucks stuff) and resupplied daily. There is a nice umbrella in the closet for strolls in the rain. Shuttle service is provided throughout the resort every few minutes all day long. Lots of magazines and books are available for a relaxing read. Free computers for those of us with no laptop and free in-room internet for those that have their own. Real ink pens sit by the notepads not some stubby little pencil. The patios have teak furnature, a table and cushioned chairs and a lounge. Parking is convenient and plentiful and free. You NEVER get a sales call. The concierge actually knows about places to go & things to do & see and isn't just trying to sell you tours. They even provide info on things that are free in the area.

I could go on & on listing all the little things. It was just sooo nice to stay here for a week and not be nickled & dimed to death for all the little stuff and to never have to make a call to maintenence. What a great place. Too bad all the other 5*/Golden Pineapple timeshares don't provide this kind of experience.

The resort has their floating season done right!!.
    1. Summer
    2. the rest of the year.

So unlike Marriott Newport Coast, where many people buying a floating platinum week think they are buying a summer week BUT find that they have to get up at 5am to call and fight to "maybe get a summer week". FS owners who buy summer get summer.

I stayed there. It was nice, but I wasn't that impressed because I would rather have a less luxurious unit with an ocean view. And, what really killed it for me is that I was allergic to something in the unit. I think they used to allow pets and my nose was running the whole time. Very unpleasant.

They still allow pets. There were several people staying with small dogs and we even saw one couple walking a retriever. I fully understand that many if not most folks want an ocean view. Hard to get in California as you know. Our little resort at Avila Bay has all ocean view units but nice as it is, it doesn't come anywhere close to Aviara in comfort. And coastal resorts are subject to many foggy days when that ocean view is non-existant. And the weather is damp & cold.

Now ocean view in Hawaii?...oh yeah...that is worth it anytime!

I can't wait to go. I will be there for Valentine's and President's day. I know the weather will be cooler, but it's the Four Seasons!

I have 4 boys 7,9,12,and 13, Aviara is their favorite resort hands down, and I really think that for a lot of families it is not that entertaining. I think part of it is that we let them roam freely down to the hotel for the free gameroom, they know all the shuttle drivers and catch rides every where, we let them do kids club and signed a paper letting them come and go as they please, they like all the pools, they like smores that they do not have to but, wife loves daily made service, it is a killer to come home without it. The room is nothing extra special, it is large, my wife and i listen to the live music in the lounge enjoying $11 worth of coffee (can't afford anything else) plus, we are there to relax, and pretty much just relax, and that works for us.

We will be there Friday March 6. Will we miss you? Or can we meet up at the pool for a glass of wine?

Where is the lounge with the 'free' music? I bet they also have $18 martinis to go with that coffee

I am going early November - a repeat visit - last there May 2005 - which was the cause of another expensive 'habit' - L'Occitane

Lounge is in the lobby area, they always have a singer each night, just call the hotel for times, rotates every night, it is our date each night, my wife plays dress up and we have a great time

I am at the Four Seasons now - and I just LOVE this place. I know Julie doesn't like Starbucks but they serve it every morning from 6:30 to 9:30 for no cost as well as provide coffee in your unit. We are in a studio this trip - fine for 2 people but I REALLY love the one and two bedrooms.
We are in the Summit - building 17, last one past the pool with a spectacular sunrise view over the mountains. We are also on the ground floor with a patio and flower filled garden beyond - just stunning!
Today we are going to hang out at the 'quiet' hotel pool that overlooks the ocean in the distance. And a sunset drink in the lobby.

I am already planning my next trip: I told DH I want to stay down in the Meadows....seems to be more activity down there - but I will miss this view. My last trip we were in building 18 - right across from the pool on the middle level. Building 17-24 would have this same view. Building 25-29 & 16 would have a lagoon view. Buildings 11-15 might have a distant ocean view but the ground floor units are looking at a hedge and the resorts roadway??? - doesn't seem the best. You can walk right across the road to the hotel from any of these units.

Down in the Meadows - it would seem that 46,47,51 & 52 would have unobstructed golf course/lagoon views, 48-49 overlook the pool area, 50 partial pool/open view and 44-45 lagoon/golf looking past the tennis courts. The residensce club has a shuttle that connstantly circles the property - taking you up to the hotel and golf course.

Just really enjoying my relaxing visit.

Sounds like you are smitten just like we were. We had west facing the firtst time and east facing on our last visit. I definitely prefer the west facing units and love having an upper unit (once we have hauled all our stuff up the stairs.) They do offer to help unload when you check in & out but we just did it ourselves.

I hope the weather is co-operating but it sounds like it has been a bit chilly and rainy down there. We had full on rain on our first visit but enjoyed just sitting in front of the fireplace curled up with a good book. Be sure to go for a walk on the lagoon while you are there. It is really lovely.

We'd love to hook up with you for a drink in the lounge on Friday night! Let's keep in touch as the date approaches.
