  • Welk vs Marriott NCV

My family typically goes to So. Cal third week in June, as soon as school gets out. EOY we stay at our Grand Pacific Palisades unit. For the even years I have been trading into NCV, and have stayed there 3 times. There is availabilty at Lawrence Welk in Escondido for 2010, and I was interested in opinions about staying there instead of NCV. Kids will be 17 and 10.5 by then.

I've stayed at both places. NCV in May a couple of years ago and Welk in January. I think I liked NCV's location better. Also, the quality of the units are more consistent at NCV. There is a big difference between the older and newer units at LW, so if you are trading into the resort your chances of getting an older unit are probably a lot better as you are probably on the bottom of the priority list. NCV is on the coast so you will have ocean views but not necessarily from your unit. I think I actually like the grounds of LW better than NCV; they have a restaurant on sight (Canyon Grille) but it is overpriced and the menu is so-so at best. If you're a golfer, LW is definitely your better choice as there are a couple of courses right on property, plus they have golfing lesson for free. LW also has the theatre.

If you end up at LW, skip the T/S presentation, the benefits are small, and the presentation (at least the one were went to) was long and they don't take NO for an answer very well.

I prefer the villas on the greens over the regular welk resort villas, newer, we stayed in the older side last year, huge room, pretty dated, still liked it, just prefer the lockoffs at the villas on the green, nice to have our kids in the smaller half
