Lake Tahoe

We are going to the North Shore of Lake Tahoe next October 3-10 (2009) and looking to add another week on the front or back of it. Any suggestions other than the South Shore Area? Is there enough to do to stay in Reno for a week with day trips, etc.?

If you haven't been to San Francisco, I'd go there - plenty to do for more than a week.
From SF, you can go to Napa Valley, Muir Woods, coast highway, in addition to all the beautiful sights in the City of SF itself.

I wouldn't bother with a week in Reno. I second the San Francisco suggestion, though if you need a large unit that will be near impossible. But a week in/around the city after a week in Tahoe would make for a nice varied trip.

Or, how about heading north to Oregon, Seattle, Vancouver or Whistler?

I have spent a lot of time in Reno and Lake Tahoe. Personally, I would do as others have suggested and go to San Francisco. I lived in the SF Bay area for many years and there are a ton of very interesting things to see and do in the area. You should also try to fit in a visit to Yosemite National park.
