If anyone has info on the best units to stay in at Carlsbad Inn or even better, a resort layout, please let me know.

I dont have a map but avoid the first floor. Our unit is on the second floor it has somewhat of an ocean view off of the balcony. The third floor would be my choice. Call ahead a few weeks ask the front desk for the highest floor and the best view possible. The first floor is almost like underground.
Another thing the fish at Fish House Vera Cruz is very good and you can walk there from the Carlsbad Inn and have a couple or more cocktails
(I think it is beer and wine only)
Also in Leucadia which is about 15 minutes south is
La Especial del Norte some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten.
In the summer the Wave Waterpark in Vista is a hit for us. -
I have to agree, stay away from the first floor. We stayed on the second floor in the Elms section. We had rooms 210, 11 and 12. They were all 1 bedrooms, 212 was a larger room than the rest and faced the ocean. We all had a view of the ocean from the balcony. I would think the third floor would have an amazing view.Comment

You didn't say 1 or 2 BR. If 1 BR call a couple weeks ahead and ask for the
3rd floor corner unit. I stayed in it a few years ago and it has a great view north and west. Sorry, I don't remember the room #.Comment

Best Units
Hello,
For Carlsbad Inn, if the unit ends in 10-20 (Elm Building, Sunday check-in) or in 21-32 (Oak Building, Saturday check-in), the unit faces the courtyard and will likely have a partial ocean view.
I own unit #213 during Christmas week and it has a very nice view of the courtyard and of the ocean if you are on the balcony looking to the right. I recommend this unit also.
