  • Greetings from Laguna Surf - A perfect green flash at sunset!

We are back at Laguna Surf for two whole weeks and the weather was nice and warm over the week-end. We had a cool wind today but still nice for walking on the beach. We are expecting rain. Our sunsets have been very nice every evening.

I was walking the beach tonight and taking a few sunset pictures and had finally put my iPhone away because it was getting too dark. I kept watching the sunset and suddenly, there was that famous green flash! I saw it once in Mexico too and was hoping to see it again one day.

A lady was walking in front of me and was putting something away. I thought it was her camera so I asked her if she was lucky enough to take a picture of the green flash but she was putting her sunglasses away instead. She saw the green flash too. Her husband was walking in the distance so we waited for him to catch up and she asked him if he also saw the green flash. He saw it too so now I know that it wasn't my imagination.

Has anyone else here seen a green flash? It was more like a green spot as you see in the third picture here. In Mexico it was more like a real green flash. I looked it up on the Internet and the phenomena seems to be real and there are several pictures on the Internet to prove it. I wished I had a photo of it but I have some nice sunset pictures that I took with my iPhone tonight.

Beautiful pictures Emmy! I've only seen the green flash once while I was in Naples, other than that.. not usually. The picture you have of the green flash is really remarkable.

I hate you Emmy. Not really; you know I love you. I just hate that you are in Laguna and I'm surrounded by snow.

Lucky lady to not only see the green flash but get a picture as well!

That green flash picture wasn't mine. I just linked to it.

I am reading about all the snow you have back East. It looks beautiful but it is cold and you may have to clean the driveway to use the car. That is hard work.

Wow, Emmy, that place is so beautiful. I am hoping for a last minute exchange somewhere on the coast for the week of March 28. I could get a rental but need to use one of my weeks. We got inexpensive tickets on Southwest to San Diego for that week.

If all else fails, we just might take a cruise out of San Diego.

                  Gorgeous pictures as usual.

I don't how many years I've been watching for the Green Flash.

I've always wondered about those who claim to see it!!!

Congratulations! I was born and raised in SoCal and have only seen it twice. I could fill an picture album of almost...but not quite getting it on film.

Oh, Emmy-girl! Lucky you, to be at Laguna Surf, and see the green flash, as well!
One year, when we were on Kauai, at Lawai Beach, I saw the green flash twice, once from our balcony, and once from The Beach House. That was so memorable, never having seeing it before, and then getting to witness it twice! Good for you! I hope you and Peter continue to have a beautiful stay. Two whole weeks in Laguna? I can see why Lawren jokingly said she hates you. I think we're all luckier than most, much of the time. Hugs... Jean

Thanks a lot Jean. Yes, we are very lucky. Do you believe that I saw the green flash again today! We were watching the sunset and I told my DH to keep his eyes on the disappearing sun without blinking. I had the iPhone in my hand but I was so busy looking that I forgot to take a picture. It happens in a flash and so fast that you really cannot take a picture unless you take a movie clip, if you have a decent camera. You should be able to see it then. We have had nice sunsets every night and today was a gorgeous day. All week long we have been able to see Catalina Island, Lawren. We also saw San Clemente Island this week.

We are starting our second week tomorrow. Time just flies and the same will happen in Maui where we will stay four whole weeks on a row. I do not see how people want to split up their week in two or three days but some people do. We tried it once and decided never again.

How very fortunate the people are who live on the ocean here and see it day in and out. Would they even notice it still but we sure do. Here are the views from our balcony. Our view will be better yet next week and I don't care that it isn't a Four Seasons Aviara, Starwood or a Marriott as we come to enjoy the ocean and beach and sound of the surf.

PS. These are iPhone pictures reworked with Picasa 3 which is a free program from Google.
