How many have visited? When I checked, was told the poppies past their peak, but the fields are still lovely.

    Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

    Antelope Loop Trail

    Season: March-May
The California poppy blooms on many a grassy slope in the Southland, but only in the Antelope Valley does the showy flower blanket whole hillsides in such brilliant orange sheets.

March through Memorial Day is the time to saunter through this wondrous display of desert wildflowers.

Antelope Loop Trail—and all trails in the reserve—are easy walking and suitable for the whole family. Seven miles of gentle trails crisscross the 1,760-acre reserve; many hikers take every trail in the park without getting too tired.

Directions to trailhead: From the Antelope Valley Freeway (California 14) in Lancaster, exit on Avenue I and drive west 15 miles. Avenue I becomes Lancaster Road a few miles before the Poppy Reserve. The reserve (day use fee) is open 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. daily.

Spring wildflower displays are always unpredictable. To check on what’s blooming where, call the park at (661) 942-0662 before making the trip.

    Robert,

When I was reading your post, all I could "see" in my head was that scene from the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy,Toto, & The Lion all fall asleep in the field!!

We have many times over the years, Robert. I have beautiful old fashioned camera pictures of the poppies and other wildflowers too but I can't show them here. Here is a good web site where you can stay up to date of where the flowers are. I still see some nice displays but they were over two weeks ago. It may be too late now, Robert.

Our wildflowers are beautiful Wacky but your fall colors are even more spectacular. I have some beautiful pictures of wildflowers as far as your eyes can see but they are in a stored box somewhere.

We love to go to the desert in the spring when the wildflowers are out. Some years are much better than others but the web site, I posted earlier, will keep you up to date when and where they are.
