  • Need help choosing CA timeshare

Hi all. I am new to this forum, but DH & I have owned a timeshare in AC, NJ for almost 10 years now. We usually have exchanged along the East Coast through II.

We are currently trying to plan a trip to CA for our 6th anniversary in Sept. We plan to spend our anniv. in Disneyland where we were married. We would like to spend about 3 days there, with maybe a day in Knotts or in Universal. We would also like to spend some time in San Diego. We would probably go to the Zoo, the Wild Animal Park, Sea World, and maybe some beach time if I can drag DH there.

I would like to book our week in one area or the other, then maybe a hotel in the other area for a few days to make our entire trip about 10-11 days. I'd like to keep our daily drive time to a minimum, hence the stays in separate locations, but we can be flexible. And yes, I do know I tend to try to squeeze more into a trip than I can ever possibly do. I figure that just gives me options!

I would really appreciate any suggestions or info you can give me. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to ts4m's.

    Hello and welcome,

Personally I would recommend staying in Oceanside, Carlsbad, Solana Beach or Del Mar. They are in North San Diego County between San Diego in the South and Orange County to the North where Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm are. If you can avoid the rush hour traffic with your schedule you will be fine. Also Laguna or Newport Beach would be great as well.

Definately check out this thread in this forum:

    I hope this helps.

            Lawrence Welk

I think the Perfect Match for you would be Lawrence Welk in Escondido. We have owned there for many years and have gone there aprox. 10 times. Easy trip to all of San Diego and near the Wild Animal Park. If anything maybe rent a hotel for a day or two across from Disney. Welk has always been a perfect location for us and I hope it works for you too.

Bart, thanks for the info on Lawrence Welk! I just came here to post the resort we finally got, which just happens to be Lawrence Welk!

My husband looked at the confirmation and was afraid it would be too far from San Diego, so I'm glad to hear you say it is an easy trip. We plan to do Sea World, the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park while we are there, also Belmont Park to ride the Giant Dipper (yes, we are coaster fanatics! )

Have you been to the show at Welk? Is it worth seeing? How far in advance do you have to make reservations, or can I wait until we get there to decide?

              Thanks for the help.

              Nancy

                Welk

The shows are always changing so I'm not sure which one is there right now.
We have gone to the show only once, and enjoyed it.
In the past, if you go to a presentation they give you 1 free ticket to the show or other options. They also have a welcome meeting where they pick lucky people and I don't remember what they give away at that.
I don't think there is any problem getting last minute tickets.
If you are anything like us, it should be a nice relaxing stay.

We actually requested several different resorts in the greater San Diego area. LW is the one that came through from II. Our main reason for including LW on our request list was location, also there seem to be a lot of activities at the resort thet interest us. We will probably end up using the resort as a base of operations since we have already planned a lot of off resort activities. So much for having plenty to do at the resort.....

Enjoy your vacation in southern California! If you like music and the Hollywood Bowl is still going, that would be a nice experience too. However, there is too much to do in one week.

The AAA book shows stars for the very best trips in this area. You will need the zip code for the Lawrence Welk resort. You can do this all online, I believe.

I actually purchased the Platinum 1 bedroom timeshare last week for the unit which is under construction and will be ready by January 2008. The place was great for retreat. I'm not sure on how to deal with it to trade for another place somewhere but the place was awesome.... I said to myself that it's ok to get stuck on this place. It has a golf course (outside your window). It's not bad to play golf all week once a year for the rest of my life. It's like being in the eastcoast with a weather of the westcoast. I ask a couple (60-70 yrs. old) eating in the Pizza Hut about the place and they said they owned a couple of timeshare and Lawrence Welk SD is they're favorite. They said it was quite and it's really relaxing to stay... I agree to that. I bought this timeshare because I have 8 years old that I want to learn and play golf as his sports. I can say Welk Resort is for multi-purpose vacation....they also have one coming in Cabo San Lucas, this will get the done deal!

                            SD

Congrats on Lawrence Welk! I think you will really enjoy this place. It's beautiful, located very close to the Wild Animal Park and not a bad drive to San Diego. It gets high marks on the TUG site in the reviews section.

While in Orange County, why not buy one of those incentive packages for Marriott's Newport Coast for $299 you get 4 days and 3 nights in one of their villas. YOu have to take their 90 minute tour but if you can say NO, then you have a great deal.

We bought at Welk several years ago after going there on a RCI Trade. It was so relaxing and my kids (6 and 12 at the time) fell in love with the place and activities they had for kids and adults alike. Now, the kids are young adults and still love it. We have never had a bad experience there or a bad unit. We also like the fact that it has always had an RCI office there which we use to trade some of our other resorts.
We own 3 timeshares and Worldmark points but have yet to ever find anything to compare to Welk. The only bad part is when you mention it to outsiders they think you are going to an old folks home. I only wish they had one like Welk.
