  • Southern California Airports?

We have an exchange in Palm Desert the last week of January and an exchange to NewPort Beach the first week of February. Which airport(s) would be the best to use? We will be flying from the mid south/mid west.

The Palm Springs airport is the most convenient for the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area. However you may not be able to get a decent flight but it is worth checking first. Generally the Ontario, CA airport "ONT" is the best for that area. Pretty well all of the major airlines fly into ONT. Other than Palm Springs, ONT is the closest. It is a straight shot down I-10 from ONT and it is a very easy airport to get in and out of. It will take about an hour from ONT. Any of the other airports will take a lot longer and you will have to deal with the traffic.

For Newport Beach, Long Beach and Orange County "SNA" airports will be the most convenient.

I have used all of the airports except for Long Beach. I would avoid LAX and Burbank if possible.

If we are flying in and out of one airport for both resorts, then is it between ONT and SNA for best price, schedule and rental car pricing?

Yes, though it wouldn't hurt to check Long Beach. If you can drop your car off at either airport, then I would fly into ONT and leave from SNA assuming the schedules and price are similar. Most airfares are now based on one way so a r/t ticket doesn't save you anything.

If you are flying from Nashville, Southwest has several flights to ONT including a non-stop flight. I flew Southwest from ONT to Nashvile and back. I don't know if they are the cheapest though but you can check it out.
