  • Welk Resort in Escondido

Going to Lawrence Welk Resort Villas • LW2 soon.

Looking for recommendations on Unit preferences, what to request.

What to do in the area.

    Any other tips and recommendations.

    TIA

What do you like to do. You have several things depending on if you mind driving or not. San Diego is about a 40 minute drive, Oceanside about the same. Specifics on what you like to do would help so I can give decent ideas.

I live about 30 minutes north of LW. Actually LW is about 5 miles north of Escondido. There are many things to but you need to be more specific as to what you like. Do you like visiting casinos, zoos, amusement parks, the city, museums, etc., etc.?

We are going to the Wild Animal Park for sure.

        Driving is not an issue.
Interested in visting the wineries in the area. Also interesting in any orange groves, or othe citrus groves (If there is such a thing anymore).

Coastal beaches. How is the weather in early December?

Restaurant recommendations would be appreciated as well.

        Thanks.

Even if you are not gamblers, I would recommend signing up for the player's card at Valley View Casino. The reason I say this, is that the last time we were there, they had an amazing buffet. At that time, if you joined the player's club, they gave you a free buffet dinner. It was fabulous!

Oh How Ironic! When you posted about orange groves, I thought to myself-do we have any...anymore? I grew up with them everywhere. I remember running through them as a kid. So then I thought-he really needs to come to Riverside (Ca) I think they still hold an Orange Festival every year but where are those groves? I have been away from my hometown (Riverside) for many years-but that park you posted...right in the thick of it...didn't even know it existed.

You were probably closer when you stayed in Palm Springs or even NCV...but it's doable-you don't mind driving right? (off peak of course

I swear-everytime you come here I think-I should follow you around and see my own state-you do really cool things.

I think you will really enjoy L Welk Resort. Do go in to San Diego....visit Balboa Park.

I second the recommendation for the Valley View Casino buffet. It is great with all the lobster you can eat. There are quite a few areas with orange groves. One area that is close to LW is the Pauma Valley. Go east from Escondido through Valley Center in a loop to hwy 76 nd then continue through the Pauma Valley on 76 to I-15 and the south back to LW. It is a nice drive and well Worth it..

For wineries, visit the Temecula Wine Country. Below is a link for it:

Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association - Welcome

Just go north on I-15 about 20 miles to Rancho California road in Temecula. Go east on Rancho California Road for a couple miles and you will be there.

When I looked on the map I realized it was indeed closer to NCV. No I don't mind driving at all. As a matter of fact we will be visiting the Newport, Laguna Beach area again anyway on our next trip. We just love the area.

                    Temecula to eat

We have enjoyed driving to Temecula near the Macy's to find lots of Restaraunts that we liked. You can also make the drive to San Diego and find any kind of food you care for.
