OK, then what is the name of the busy puiblic beach at the curve across from where we used to eat at Haneys?

    Happy T-Day

You guys need any golf balls? What kinds?

Wanna come up to Rotonda one day and we'll come down to Estero another?

Still looking for a second week.

I have to agree with you on that area of beach. I love the Disney Vero beach resort but don't care for the beach behind the resort. I spend most of my time in the pool and on my balcony. It's just too rought to swim in. There's nothing like a nonswimmable beach at a beach resort to ruin a holiday. I feel the same about Hawaii, it's beautiful but I can't swim in those beaches either. So I save myself the airfare and head to the Southwest coast or Hollywood for safe swimmable beaches.

Jim, we are going to have to get Conch Man in on this to name that beach Maybe it is just Bonita beach.

I am waiting to see when my sister is coming in, she always has bad timing. You should spend the second week in our area. The people at Sea Oats probably won't let us in, we reported their bad dealings.

I have to say, this is the first beach i have stayed at that doesn't have walkers marching back and forth along the sea shore. And yes, it is not good for swimming at all.

          Nice site thanks for posting.
Many will disagree with some parts as is to be expected when listing opinions but it is most complete listing in one place that I have seen.

Not sure what you are talkin' bout Jim as the public beach is Bonita Beach & Haney's is no longer, forgot the name but its on the sign on Bonita Beach Road, a couple took it over a year ago or so but the food is still good. RaP is right bout Barefoot Beach & that's the beaches in Bonita Springs, I ought to know, we live here.

Everything RaP said is correct, the curve starts where the beach is as well as Doc's, next door to Doc's is more parkin' space & for Chriskre, we go to Bonita Beach or Barefoot Beach every other day, all year long the gurls look for shells & the alike while I fish & sun. Bonita Beach can be a little light on people some days during the summer but most of the time the parkin' lot is full. If you say it isn't then maybe you hit it durin' the exception, lots of locals & summer vacationers all always at the beach durin' summer.

I always need golf balls, you know, Pro V! Isn't Rotonda in Charlot County? Like to play some golf ifin we can!

There are more than enough great beaches in FL to please everyone.

Here is Dog Beach, looking out from Lovers Key across New Pass to Big Hickory Island. That beach across the pass is where we like to beach the pontoon and is also where the Hyatt's beach Club is. You can see a boat or water taxi at the beach club's dock over yonder.

Lee County Parks & Recreation | Lee County Government

In this aerial picture you can see how popular Dog Beach is from all the cars parked there. You have to be careful when that many dogs are driving there at the same time:

              http://www.leeparks.org/images/aerials/Dog%20Beach.jpg

I said I would need help getting everything right.

I will agree that the busy park on the curve where Bonita Beach Road becomes Hickory Blvd is Bonita Beach Park. Here it is, only they have the main picture bent so it looks like the road bends the opposite of the way it really does. The aerial picture has it right:

              - - - - - -

We have Sea Oats for Week 1 only. That is a situation like we had at BR&C where I am getting the same deposit repeatedly. We had the same unit last year and we have it for both Weeks 1 & 2 in 2011.

Yes, it is a much lesser SW FL resort, one at the lower end of even the old motel conversions. But 7 or 8 couples from our golf course here winter there, in Englewood or Rotonda, so we have some familiar faces to run around with. Plus, last year the first evening as we were watching sunset I discovered that the gaggle of OFs there are athletic coaches and officials from my jr. high and HS days, so that sorta gave me a bit of a welcome.

None of them called me offside once, but I did get some unsportsmanlike conduct stares when all the folks from here showed up for a Sunset Party. The next morning I read in their rules that that is not allowed, that all locals are to leave the property at 5:00 PM.

Besides, Inside Guy's folks own there and he was steering me toward it for a few years.

I like the golf setup at Rotonda . . . decent courses without the high SW FL rates. G & B will be with us only Week 1, as they are still working people. If y'all can't make it up, we'll come down one day.

              What kinda golf balls again?

                Got the Pro Vs.

I keep and sort them for one of the young cart boys and for a couple of the guys in golf league.

I tried them this year a few times but they're too soft for me . . . they don't like trees and cart paths.

My game will be pretty rusty by then so you won't get any strokes from me.

                  Conch Man,

I guess I am coming from a staying in the TS or motel perspective not from a local visiting the public beach perspective.

I haven't been to Bonita beaches TS's in about 3 years so maybe there has been a mad rush of locals discovering Bonita but in the 20 years or so we used to stay at Bonita beach resort motel and stay at Bonita Resort both on the bayside and using the beaches across from the resorts it has really been very sparsely populated on that end of the island and mid island. I have never liked the public beach dear Doc's and honestly have never even been to that restaurant as we always have a kitchen and BBQ or do Taco Johns.
Also I usually go with fishing people who insist we eat what we catch so I force myself to eat the fresh fish although lately it had been mostly catfish with an occasional snook or snapper.

We moved to going to Bonita about 20 years ago because Ft. Myers was just getting way too crowded and Sanibel/Captiva too expensive. I usually visit in August when that coast is at it's hottest and I think that maybe that is why the beaches are not as crowded as other times of the year. I'll have to force myself to take another vacation this year to give you guys a true evaluation on the crowds. Maybe I'll take pictures.
Maybe we should stop talking about Bonita or it might show up on more search engines and increase the traffic.

When you read the verbiage about Bonita Beach beaches, it explains why they do not seem very crowded. There are miles and miles and miles and miles of very nice beaches is SW FL, with a lot of access points, except for places like Marco that discourage access except for those who live there.

That spreads folks out a lot . . . except in the really popular beaches with bigger parking lots.

Way tooooooo funny Chris!!!! Nice explanation of Bonita back some twenty years ago, we weren't here at that time, only the last five years, not countin' the time spent lookin' for a lot & buildin' our home.

It seems Ft. Myers Beach is always crowded, any time of the year, guess it was busy back then to durin' the time you spent here timesharin'. All these snowbirds come down every year & its tough to get on any beach. These access points Jim was speakin' of is correct, you can't even get in there unless you get there way before sunrise.

RaP, not wishin' any bad luck on ya but I hope you freeze playin' your league this winter! That's way toooooooooo early for me to play golf unless its in the high 70's! Your not gettin' any strokes from me cause ya shot a high score, if anything, you gonna give me strokes, Jim already said I'm not gettin' any strokes & he plays all year round as you & Ron do!

Maybe I've been under an illusion all these years so it feels like I've got the beaches all to myself. True it is a huge beach and with so many private houses and little parking along the way I think it does create the illusion of having it all to yourself.

I don't use the public parking lot area beaches so I'll just keep living in my fantasy world. It's a much better place than reality.

With the changing of the seasons the color of the ocean off the SE Florida coast has recently changed to a darker blue. Not as pretty as the turquoise waters of summer but still nice and warm.

That area was really different in the 70's. Just a sleep little fishing village.

                                Same beaches though.
