  • Florida Insurance Rates

Here's a fun little thing I haven't share in awhile. When it loads, it says it is a bad address, then goes to the good one . . . for me at least.

I picked an area where there is a barrier island and also substantial nearby inland development (Manasota Key/Englewood v. Rotonda). With some companies being five miles inland makes a difference in premiums and in some it, does not.

Thanks Jim. We own a lot in zip 34224 and now I have an idea of the cost of home owners. Now we only have to wait another 10 years to build.

You want to make sure that you have homeowers, wind and flood insurance. many homeowners policies in Florida do not cover wind damage. The wind part is the killer. I have three separate policies because I live on the barrier isalnd and private wind insurance is difficult to get.

I find the list a little misleading, Jim. A lot will depend on the age of the home. We have a friend who has a smaller home than we do, and it is older than ours and their insurance is about half again higher than ours, and we use State Farm. It has to do with the home 'being up to code'. Our DD#1 had her 10 yo + older house inspected and made the improvements that were recommended and her rates came down. And she lives in South Ft. Myers.

And we just heard that SF will be cancelling 'some' home owners policies this summer. So far we are ok.
