  • Vistana refurbishment

I just checked in to a newly refurbished Fountains unit at Vistana. Lovely! A few very minor quibbles with some of the choices they made, but overall, I'm quite impressed.

I know the owners here paid a pretty penny for these updates, but this is much more than a garden variety refreshening. I'll be very surprised if they don't get their gold crown back after the whole resort is complete early next year. It's definitely going to be back on my list of places I'd be happy to stay.

I stayed on a last call last 2 years ago when they were just starting the renovations and first we got an old room and after a bed bug complaint
they moved us to a nice brand new room which was really beautiful.

We didn't want to leave on check out date.
They literally had to kick us out.

I hope this doesn't mean that they won't come up on the last calls anymore.

Now that I've been here a couple days, some more minor quibbles.

The large glasses are plastic, not glass.
No coasters or placemats---and all this new furniture!
The multi-colored fiestaware does not go with the decor. (White would be better.)
A few more starter supplies would be nice.

But, overall, a great place to stay---much nicer than the Vacation Village @ Parkway unit I'm moving to today---and we'll be happy to come back. We've already got a President's Week 2011 unit booked for a Universal/Sea World week. I may "upgrade" that if the right unit comes along elsewhere, but after spending a short week here, I no longer really feel the need to.

If one of the main problems is large plastic glasses they must have done a great job!

It seems the way to go to save money at any timeshare but near Disney really smart because most families staying there are with chrildren and as all parents know glass meets floor many times. Remember that many families staying at the resort are exchanging or renting and just don't worry about breaking glass.

Many of the better resorts have upgrade plans years in advance and try to keep within budget and things like plastic glass helps.

I know our resort after meetings with owners making a few easy changes. They decided at the Ridge Tahoe that the days of wallpaper has passed. They have plans to start removing and going back to paint.

As explained last year when we went to the meeting that not only has much of the wallpaper eighties style get damaged by others but costly because they keep some of the paper in stock for these reasons. Problem comes after few years when you can not replace the paper and need to install all new wallpaper which means total replacement so it matches.

Now when someone knocks a hole or mess the wall up they can come in and patch it and repaint in couple hours and unit ready to go again. They can also much easier change a color in a unit if wanted without doing forty units everytime there is a change.

I know owners like myself have brought this up for years because one of the minor problems a very small amount of people renting or exchanging into the resort complain about the eighties look of the walls. I have never judged a resort on not liking wallpaper and this has never hurt my stay at any resort but as all of us owners of timeshares understand some people are petty and look for something to knock!
