  • WESTGATE again.....

We were on a TS presentation 2 years ago in Orlando.
Purchased a week stay in a 1/1 unit in any of the following 3 resorts...
    WESTGATE TOWN CENTER
    VACATION VILLAS or
    TOWERS in Kissimmee, FL.
    Paid $800, stupid me....
We did not know much about TS at that time yet...now we own, only resale...
    Any way.
We were told, that they are going to build a water park or something at
TOWN CENTER location, completed by 2009 Febr? not sure if it is completed or it was just a lie to suck us in...
Any way, my ? is: which one of therse locations would be recommended by
    TS 4MS users.
I do not care the aproximerty to DISNEY...
But I have 2 very activ girls, age 7 and 10.
    Love swimmingpool....and space...
I know, 1/1 is small for us, but some resorts, older once are bit bigger in unit size.
Any recommendatition, which one to choose out of the 3 resorts above?
    Thank you, csavargo

[MARQUEE-RIGHT][/MARQUEE-RIGHT]In good conscience (sp?) I cannot recommend anything having to do with Wastegate, even if it is to suggest least bad.

I stayed at Vacation Villas last October and there was no mention of any waterpark at all. The villas were huge but could use updating. They were in decent condition except for the mattresses but just remember a pool and it was nothing spectacular but a good size.

Sorry this doesn't completely answer your question.

When are you planning on going?

In our last tour, which was our last tour, a couple years ago, the proposed water park came up.

We didn't hear any more about it because we did not make it past the introductory survey . . . but we still had to sit there alone another hour, and then about that to get our freebie.

It was to be but we needed a few new Lexus' for the kids

The water park foundation is in but may never be completed. Yet another in a long line of broken promises by this despicable organization. Of course it would be a negative if they DID build it as they would most likely screw it up & charge owners to fix the problems as they do with the buildings. Sales & fees is all they know and as they hold the keys they do as they please despite owner dissatisfaction.

Now that they are deep financial trouble despite ripping off buyers & owners things will just get even worse. It is a place to avoid whenever possible. Hope that karma catches up to them soon and they suffer when the collapse happens.

            Financial Condition

You mention that Westgate is in financial trouble. Are there any facts to support that statement. I realize the chief weasel is selling off a lot of assets, however he may be doing this to streamline the company. I would think if WG is in trouble he would take his assets, hide them in other corporations, and run.

I think the Timeshare industry is feeling the crunch jut like the rest of the world.

As for the original posters question, I have only stayed at the Towers and the Villas. I prefer the villas and I own a week 16 2 bedroom unit that I bought resale dirt cheap 10 years ago. I have stayed at Westgate three times and never been dissappointed. Never sat through one of their phony maintenance inspections and believe me they tried to get me to go. You just have to learn to say no right up front. When the baggage handler brings me to my room, I simply put him off about making an appointment and I ignore their phone calls afterwards. Sometimes they don't call at all. If I were staying there again, I would want to try Town Center since it is newer. In fact, I may be checking them out at the end of August, but I'm trying to exchange into another timeshare where friends are staying.

It has been widely publicized that Wastegate is in a serious financial crunch. As they are privately held reports have to rely on an outside look in, but it is clear there are big problems in the kingdom. At the annual Vacation Villas meeting they flat out stated that the company was "experiencing financing issues" as one of the reasons buildings were left unfinished, as is the water park and "no new buildings are planned" going forward. They have stated openly that the credit markets for their securities have "dried up". No one sees value there anymore.

They closed most sales centers last year and those that remain are mere shells of what they were. As you noted they are selling off assets including the kings unfinished "castle". Everything put together says this is an organization barely hanging on that had thought the gravy train would never end. Right now they are likely one of the top 4 or 5 most troubled timeshare companies around.

A rarely seen level of glee expressed by watchers that will come along with what would normally be a sad situation of a large organization falling on its face will astound people when the end comes. This is a corrupt, convicted organization and principals that have screwed over everyone and everything they possibly could for decades. When it finally comes back to haunt them many will feel it is merely what they deserve. Most will want even more as mere ruin isn't good enough for what they have willfully done over those many years to so many. From employees, vendors and customers - no one was safe. I am in the camp that feels anything bad that happens is richly deserved.

There is no surprise whatsoever that the rats are deserting the sinking Tower of Terror ship in droves. That seems to be the final nail that tipped the evil empire into the sea of red ink they may never get out of. Flush the whole thing & move on.

I've head so many complaints about this company that I'm not surprised by the news. Sad for those who own. What happens to them if the company does belly-up? Will it be bought out? What if no one wants it?
BTW - Which other companies do you think are in the top troubled TS companies?

Owners at the resorts aren't likely to be hurt if Wastegate collapses. Remember although they act like they own the place and run it as their personal playground and ATM machine the owners actually have ultimate say. If the current management gets put in its place another group - either appointed or brought in by the owners - would step up. To be honest that would be a GREAT outcome as almost anyone that took over is going to be a major improvement. In fact it is a great thing if it happened and owners got to properly call the shots as they should have been for over a decade.

The sales side is a totally different story but as owners we shouldn't be involved with sales. Never should have been. That it still plays such a big and obnoxious role at every Wastegate is a big part of the many problems having them as management brings. Again it would most likely be a positive if tomorrow Wastegate was hammered out of existence and someone else stepped into some of the needed roles they have so incompetently filled for far too long.

Who else is in trouble? Celebrity & Consolidated Resorts have filed Bankruptcy and a few individual resorts have as well. No timeshare company would be viewed as a super stable operation right now given the hit the industry has taken in the overall economic downturn. Some seem to be thinking about getting out entirely based on comments over the past year or so. Time will tell how that shakes out.
