  • Mystic Dunes in Orlando filing Chapter 11 and selling to Diamond..

This was a very nice resort that has tried to survive by focusing on direct rentals.. Looks like that strategy failed as they are now filing for bankruptcy with the intent of selling to Diamond..

    Wow!!!

I booked that for the Girls Week Out via hotwire last summer. $65 a night.

Diamond already has a good presence in the Orlando area. Wonder what made them decide to add one more TS to their list?

I'm not familiar with Diamond. Is this going to be a bad thing?

Hope they become affiliated with RCI. They are my only II only resort and I would SO love to drop II.

Yeah, you need to get into RCI, so you can want to drop them, too.

I have our Mystic Dunes summer magazine thingy memorized, so I put it in the trash.

A golf buddy and his wife just went to Orlando today, staying with DRI somewhere.

Diamonds Resorts are all affiliated differently. Some with II some with RCI and some with both. Diamonds points system(the club)is with II.

If this resort isn't already with RCI don't look for DRI to affiliate them with RCI. I.I. has always been DRI's exchange partner of choice before they purchased Sunterra and it's the exchange company that they work with through their internal exchange program.

Diamond is a good company with high standards. Depending upon the shape of Mystic Dunes will depend on how you view this. If Mystic Dunes is below DRI standards, they'll bring the resort up to their standards and there will be a corresponding increase in MF's to pay for the improvements.

It's been a long time since I've seen Mystic Dunes but, from what I remember it was a very nice well maintained resort. I wouldn't think there would be a need for many improvements nor any big jump in MF's.

Because DRI has a strong internal exchange program that Mystic Dunes owners should be able to join, I would view this as a good thing.

I own four double affiliated weeks and five that are RCI only. While RCI is far from perfect, I have much better luck exchanging with them than I do II. My deposits sit in II forever until I lose them or "throw them away" for a weekend trip. YMMV, but II just doesn't match our needs very well.

Maintenance fees are already pretty high, but since I have a 3br lockoff, I guess they aren't too bad. I was in one of the newest buildings last time I was there, but it was in good shape.

I own week 52, so it's convenient to use when we want to spend the holidays at Disney.

Just be careful on the point conversion salespitch.. If you are happy using your property now as a weeks ownership, don't take the bait to convert to points.

Exactly what I used to say, and why we dumped II a few years back. At that time we had like 6 exchanges through II and around 50 with RCI.

Unrelated, I was working on a book about SW FL resorts awhile back and wrote both II and RCI for permission to use their copyrighted terminology, the terminology that is commonplace and is used in every Internet ad and blurb ever written.

RCI replied in a warm and friendly manner, yes m/l, but II was the opposite . . . absolutely not, not even II, and "we have lawyers".

The only resort I would definitely miss in II (and I've only stayed there once) is the Marriott Custom House in Boston. Of course, my husband hated it and really has no desire to go back. I love Boston.

What? A positive sentiment about RCI?

As I said somewhere recently, I have had a lot of warm and fuzzy experiences with RCI.

Problems in their system used to be problems inherent in timesharing, like not all weeks being equal, or insufficient information during the sales process . . . which they defer to the resorts and developers . . . , rather than the last 14 years of messing around with what was not all that bad to begin with.

Really, go find archives from OY and you will see the things we whined about then pale in comparison to the mess now.

They have even acknowledged the warm and fuzzy relationship, and, just in case I would need that some day, I saved it.

Even now we manage to give each other a yuck or two. Not long ago when they finally made it possible to use existing credits online, I told them I was tickled. They answered saying they were tickled I was tickled. When they got our account so screwed up last year accounting did not even want to try to figure it out, we both sorta laughed and said, "What do you wanna do?" & agreed on a figure.

Each person at RCI is exactly that, and very few of them have any power to do anything other than what they are told they have to do. I don't fault the individual employee for decisions way beyond them.

Then there was a certain psycho cyber stalker who accused me of not being able to make up my mind, ragging RCI one day and bragging RCI the next, to which I plead guilty. Of course, she kept track of all of my 50,000 posts. But, if I catch RCI doing something good, I'll brag em up.
