Where to rent in S. Florida

My husband and I would like to spend about a month in Florida, perhaps all of February, and I could use help choosing a location. The warmer the better! We'd like a convenient workout facility, tennis club for my husband, nearby golf course(s) that aren't too expensive, a nice walking area (or beach), and a library. We don't need fancy stores, restaurants, tourist sites or anything like that.

Are some locations better value than others? Committing to an unknown rental for a whole month is a little scary, so would it make sense to get weekly rentals instead (and maybe add a last-minute cruise deal)? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'll start looking on Craigslist around Fort Myers, since some friends stayed there last year and seemed to like it. Thanks!

Why not stay in a few different places? Pompano Beach close to
Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Key West, Holloywood Beach? Just a few suggestions.

our community has a golf course which would cost you $21 each if you paid the membership transfer fee (100). It has a very active tennis community, 5 pools, paved sidewalks with a two mile loop around the community, restaurant and activities. It is in Estero between Naples and Fort Myers, takes maybe 20 minutes to get to beach. rent would probably be $3000 a month (plus tax?) It has a workout room, and the library is right outside tyhe subdivision, you can walk to it. Three large shopping malls within 5 miles of our house. google Villages of country Creek.

We decided to visit friends for a week (near Daytona), then head south for up to 2 weeks. Might as well stay on the beach at a nice resort. Was hoping to do an II trade (short-stay or full trade), but nothing much is coming available, esp. on the west side. Looking at Fort Myers or Naples area ... maybe Lovers Key resort, although it seems to be a bit remote. Spending way too many hours on the computer looking at options!

Leaving Iowa (zero wind chill this a.m. ) on Jan 20 - checking in at Panama City Beach for a week on Jan 22nd - then to Orlando for 3 weeks - Key West (out of the check book) for a week - back to Panama City beach - then Iowa on March 7 - 9 - winter will be mostly over......

If you're trying to get something for this February on the beach, you're probably not gonna get it this late in the game unless someone cancels.
Is this for this year or next year?
