No, he will pay taxes on the amount over 25K. The second excemption kicks in at 50K. This was done to make sure that most will pay some taxes.

      • I don't see any way we can do it, unfortunately. It would be nice to lock in the low value, but I don't see how we can meet the residency requirements, get Florida driver's licenses, register all our vehicles in Florida, transfer our financial accounts to FL, etc., etc., etc.

        • Just saw a place for sale in Largo, Florida
Looks like a nice area. Although I still think Bonita Springs looks beautiful.

            Largo is very city-ish.

            • This one has been available since I first started watching a year ago. We have looked at it. DW loved it, before I told her the price. It is in a very nice area of very nice homes. Great canal, not far to the Bay and Gulf.

It's come down about $50K from the beginning, but should be ripe for a low-ball.

                  • We finally made it, struck a balance:

                      • I had posted this one, saying it would get a contract, and it did:

Sarasota County, FL - Fannie Mae REO Homes For Sale

The pickings are getting pretty slim.

                        • A couple weeks after we closed, I emailed all those involved in it, that I had exchanged emails with a dozen times a day for a couple months and said, "Hey guys, I don't know what to do with all my free time."

They sent me back lotsa laughs.

We still have not gotten our homeowners insurance policy yet, but we've been promised we have one.

                          • Here's a picture DW took of another little house about two miles from the beach, walking distance to the bay.

You could probably get in for under $40K. Anything you need to know about it . . . appraisals, permits for improvements, taxes, etc., you can find online.

The foreclosures seem to be getting scarce.

I shared it with some folks here a week ago. I wonder . . .

When I started following homepath, there were more than 18000 listed in FL. Today it is:

                              1 - 10 of 6,040

& many of them are Under Contract.

They're getting them sold and the pickings are getting slim, slimmer, more slimmer, most slimmer, slimmest, more slimmest, or most slimmest.

                              • Just when I thought it was safe, DW is buying another fannie mae.

I'll let her deal with them.

                                Who am I kidding . . . no I won't.

Heading to our FL place for a week next Monday, to get some things ready for winter.
