This is good information to know as I definitely won't be staying there if they allow pets.

As usual I agree with timeos!

It only makes sense as they have far too many buildings and allowing all of them to have he occasional pet visit creates a nightmare. Limit it to a building or two - maybe even set them up specifically for pets as they have done at Celebration World (all tile floors, no small items on the low tables, etc - basically pet proofing the units for 4 legged occupants).
Overall I see it as a positive (from Wastegate! A first!) as owners/ travelers do want to take pets and if done correctly can be a benefit to all.
If handled carefully, larger resorts should not have any real difficulty implementing a pet friendly policy with specified villas.my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

Westgate Smokie Mountain Resort and Spa,
stayed there last week.
First question they asked at the time of check in...did you bring any pet?
Have I known before....I would...
I left my puppy with someone, private and paid $300.
They should limit not only weight but certain breeds as well on a no go list!
Pit bulls are illegal in Toronto.

Not only did it not say it was pet friendly (which I knew by then) but the resort also charges an activity fee per day that is not disclosed on the auction. I emailed SkyAuction regarding this surprise fee and they responded that they'd look into it. Of course it's weeks later now and not one word back.

Well I havent been here much since I joined but i was searching on this particular topic (Westgate Pet Policy) and here I have landed. Sorry for all the pet lovers out there, but I disagree with this policy. I do not want to be in a unit that had a pet occupying it. Just another policy to put me a step closer to unloading my Westgate timeshare. I am going to Westgate Lakes 8/27 to 9/3. I have requested a unit that has not had any pets in it. I was told pets are limited to certain units and buildings. I dont know how much truth there is to it but I have to admit, I am worried. I do intend to attend the "Owners Update Breakfast". Believe me, I am the last person a salesperson wants to see. I am going SOLELY to express my outrage about the pet policy. I have a feeling they may be escorting me out of there.

Originally posted by dcwojoI use owner updates to express my disapproval quite regularly. When the salespeople lose sales you get more action on your complaints. More owners at all resorts should be doing this.
Originally posted by timeos2As they do at Celebration World since it opened it is easy to keep the pet buildings/units separate from those that aren't allowing it - especially with a resort as large as WGL. They are just as likely to "lose a sale" to a buyer that wants to travel with their pet as they are to lose one to a non-pet person. If they clearly define the building(s) that allow pets and those that don't it should be a non-issue for all. More & more hotels are adopting a pet friendly policy it seems as they want business from any source they can get.

Wow! Are you same Theo I've come to know and love?
Ya know, from SW FL fame?
Not surprising, there was a mugging at a Wastegate Branson resort recently. No, not a mugging of owners, by an actual mugging of a guest.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick
