  • Newbie questions bout RCI, weeks, points and ebay

    Hi,

After going through the HI/Orange Lake TS sales spiel this weekend I've become interested in timeshares, specifically RCI points system. I signed paperwork on a deed knowing I hadn’t done enough research, but also knew It could be rescinded, I'm sending a letter out tomorrow. But it started me down the path I wanted.

After doing some reading, the secondary market is the place to make a deed purchase. No surprise there. (I know about rentals, it doesn’t fit what I'm looking for.)

Now my question, most auctions seem to be for weeks, but I want points. If I buy a deed currently in weeks, will I get hit with some massive fee from RCI to convert it to points? Or is that part of the re-deeding/RCI signup process? I'd hate to buy a week for a buck and MF fees only to find out they want $10k to turn it into points.

    Thanks,
    JH

If a unit is advertised as weeks it is not in points. Although RCI charges a modest fee to authorized agents (authorized at a specific resort only) to convert a week to points most authorized agents charge $1595-$2995 per week to convert to points. It is much cheeper to buy a week already converted to points. A few developers have a clause that deeded weeks only transfer and need to be re-enrolled for $$$ to participate in a points program.

All that aside RCI changed its weeks program about a year ago and many members find better value and availability in RCI weeks program than in the points program.

Take your time and do research on both programs before jumping on something on ebay.
