  • Orange Lake Exchanges

On another Internet timeshare forum, an owner annnounced (unofficially) that all RCI external exchangers will be placed in the original, 25-plus year old, West Village at Orange Lake. The information page for Orange Lake at RCI has recently been changed to say that exchangers may not request particular areas and that upgrades are not available.

Because Orange Lake is the largest single-campus timeshare in the world, and because what they do affects so many people and so much in the world of timesharing, the past several years people have been taking note of the resort.

Most of the news has been good, but not all. Most report receiving excellent vacations and service, but, again, not all. With somewhere around 1000 families moving out and 1000 new families moving in each weekend, some seem to have fallen through the cracks. That can be verified through independent ratings services:

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...e_Florida.html

High on the list of complaints have been cleanliness, maintenance, and other items related to aging units.

I have been familiar with the resort for nearly 20 years, it being our first tour (four more since) and a place we have stayed at on RCI exchanges several times. We, personally, have never had a bad experience, but have been there and have talked to others who were.

Where exchangers get placed has been the single-most common topic of discussion, with some reporting requests being granted and some not.

I propose we keep a record. If you exchange into Orange Lake, let us know where you get placed. Let us know if it is an internal exchange, one made as an owner with an OL week, an external exchange through RCI as an owner (OL or other resort week), or a pure external exchange (Non-owner/non OL week).

    Thanks

To give some idea what I have in mind, although I am most intersted in future exchanges since it has been announced that all exchangers are going to be place in the West Village, here are the results of our last two stays there.

    We are not owners.

Two stays ago I made no advance request and we were placed in a brand new unit in the East Village.

The last stay I requested in advance to be in Bldgs 86700 or 86800 in the East Village, to be near one of the three hot tubs at OL. I was told I had to make that request at check-in. At check-in I was told you have to make requests in advance, that our unit had already been assigned. 3601, a three bedroom in the North Village, as far from Splash Lagoon as you can be and still be in the North Village.

    Both units were nice.

The last stay we were lucky as some guests with Exchange Confirmations were being turned away! (I guess their advanced requests should have in the resort somewhere!

I don't care what anyone says. This is IMO the best resort in Orlando. My wife does not feel that way but thats my feeling. You either love it or hate it.

I'm relatively new to timesharing and had never had heard of OLCC. After reading the posts on this bbs and other timeshare forums, my curiosity is getting the best of me. When the opportunity arises to try to exchange there, I will do it just to see for myself.

I even went to OLCC's website and read about its history. It is quite interesting.

JLB, if I exchange into there, I will let you know what section I get!

I appreciate the great discussions and insights on this bbs.
