It has nothing to do with the present discussion, except for the fact that I just stumbled onto it, but in a discussion about RI, one of the LOLs suggested that the $75-80 daily fee for a cabana was very reasonable, intimating that had traveled more I would know that.

I was just looking at Sandpiper Beach Club, a fine-looking place I am considering as a candidate for our January Florida vacation. I found this:

Just curious....RCI Endless Vacation OL advertisement...

Why does Orange Lake only really promote Orlando and not its resort? If you look at the OL ad in the recent issue (July/August 06) OL is only mentioned in the fine print....It is an ad just to get you to their timeshare presentation and they put you up in a dumpy motel....The majority of timeshare ads in Endless Vacation clearly identify the developer and/or the property......am I missing something?

We just entertained a nice Kansas City family on the lake today. She uses another internet timeshare forum and I mentioned that I was on vacation from it because I said something about one of the other users being a little snobbish and controlling when it comes to OL.

She said, "Let me guess who," and did. It seems she was the victim of some insults from the same person, because she was an exchanger rather than an owner, and had used an SA to trade in. FWIW, this family stayed in the West Village and like it just fine. But now, because of the treatment she got when she talked about it, they are looking for a different Orlando resort to stay at next time.

I don't understand the mentality of telling complete strangers on an Internet site, "If you don't like the way we do stuff at my resort, go stay somewhere else." What exactly does that accomplish for anyone?

We've been timesharing for almost 20 years and know people who have been timesharing for 30 years. We will pick the resort we want to pick and we will say what we want to about it, good, bad or indifferent, after our visit. No stranger monopolizing an Internet site is going to change that.

It seems like every time I meet someone else from that site they have been or know someone who has been, a victim of character assassination or snobbishness by the same person. And it just keeps happening.

As a hint, look for the Ignore feature on web-sites. You can use it to eliminate people who tend to spoil your visit. If you don't like what I say, put me on your Ignore list.

I didn't mean to go in that direction, but that all came up this afternoon.

Oh well, life goes on.

What is it about OLCC that draws so much attention?

I am a bit surprised that nobody added comments one way or another on the resort. The only two responses were a joke from Topeka Tom about the cost of tubes vs. OLCC and a sarcastic remark from nightnurse about my posting style.

How does a thread based in the "Central" forum lead to OLCC?

Your comment about posting your review of Big Cedar "other there" and the lack of comments or posts, is interesting. On July 14, 2006, I posted the thread onthe Fairfield VIP update about discount points "over there." Not one person has posted on it and I know that there are lots of Fairfield owners. Very curious.

Even many years ago, someone whose timeshare knowledge I highly respect made a demeaning comment about Branson and the resorts here. In that case, I don't believe he had ever been here and was only addressing generalities. it hurt to hear him say it, but I have gotten used to hurts on Internet forums.

Branson was doing just fine then, but in no way compared to what is going on here now. When he made his comment back then, I admitted that Branson was not on an even keel with the major international destinations, but since then things have changed immensely. We have been a lot of places that are booming, but few can compare to here.

Much of the development and promotion is being directed and marketed at folks far away. What we have to offer, and the price at which it is being offered, is very attractive.

We were at the Corps office the other day, and we told the duty ranger how beautiful the lake is this year. She was startled, looked at us and said, "You should have seen how nice it was 20 years ago." I answered that by saying, "That's what we will be saying 20 years from now!"

Sure, we all admit Branson has a stigma, but folks are getting passed that. Things are booming here this year, with tourism way up. How is it in other areas, with $3/gallon gasoline and all?

We were on 65 HWY south of Branson two days ago, and the new bridge over Taneycomo is there, finished except for matching the grade to it, and we said, "Wow! When they stick this up?"

How many places can support more than 120 major attractions and shows, with more theaters and seats than Broadway or Vegas?

Kinda a snide comment, but, and do it in a healthy way, without resorting to the dark, unseemly side of humanity? Other than our neighbors, crime and undesirable elements are not an issue in the Branson area (well, except for a few meth labs!). You can't say that about places like Orlando, Vegas, or even my beloved SW Florida.

OMG, I am in the twilight zone. First, I am on TUG discussing Big Cedar and OLCC comes up.

Now, on the OLCC thread, we are discussing Branson.

Oh no, it must be me!

In any event, I had no preconceived notions about Branson before getting here other than it had a lot of shows and there were a lot of timesharing resorts.

I love Big Cedar. I only spent a couple of hours in Branson. I got stuck in traffic on the 76 and I really wasn't impressed with that strip of activities.

One of my friends said that Brason was like Las Vegas without the vice. I asked my wife to help me figure out a tagline for Branson like there is for Las Vegas.

I said, "okay, if Las Vegas is What happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas, what is the equivalent saying for Branson?"

Her response was, "Nothing ever happens in Branson...." We were rolling in hysteria....

Sorry, I just couldn't help it. We will certainly be back to see Big Cedar again. We'll give Branson another shot to see if we can find what makes it great. We didn't have time this trip.

We did not move here because of the shows, but they and all the other attractions grow on you. We seldom go to town, but are seldom disappointed when we do.

Maybe it's an acquired taste.

We have found that some folks seem to have Branson force field shields, designed to ward off fun-loving because they have decided they will not like it, much as the Starship Enterprise had shields to ward off Klingon attacks.

The image is being polished up a bit as we speak.

When we go to shows I find myself comparing it to American Idol, and saying stuff like, "(mumble, mumble) These folks are just as good as anyone on American Idol." I do have to admit that out Great Aunt, who has a bit of dementia, has been known to blurt out in the middle of a show, "I sure am glad we didn't pay to get in here."

I do know that the folks with shows have a lot of competition and they all work hard to offer a good product. I've seen Jim Owens glad-handing folks at breakfast buffets to get folks to his morning show, and again at free previews at resorts the same evening. And he is not the only one doing that.

Didn't I say something like Vegas without the dark side? The nothing ever happening in Branson is doing quite well! It's nice to have a place the family can all go to together, and not have to worry about the kids (or dad!) seeing something they shoudn't.

We have met some of the nicest people who have come to visit Branson and wind up spending an afternoon on the dock or on the lake or on the golf course.

You're not wrong and it's not funny, no offense to you.

One of the contractors that bid the repairs for our storm damage moved here to cash in on the boom. He said it is the oldest and whitest place he has ever seen.
