going there for one week, anything I should request, anything I need to know?
any suggestions for dinner, sightseeing?
do I need my own beach chairs and umbrella?

Hmmm, you get four beach chairs per unit and I am pretty sure you get an umbrella, too.
Did you reserve thru Bluegreen or elsewhere?

What size unit?
If you have a 2br sleep 8 it is oceanfront.
2 BR sleep 6 is not.
Higher floor better then lower.
I prefer south side of building, has a more expansive view.

I am assuming free wifi but unsure if non-BG owners pay? Check the website.

Wi fi is free if you have wayport with AT&T or at least it was wayport last I was there.
I had a 1 bedroom and you only get two free chairs with the 1 bedroom and no umbrella.
Parking was around $3 a day valet only.

Surfside is a quiet town relatively speaking for Miami.
You will need a car to get around. Publix is down the street.
There are several restaurants that will deliver to the resort.
There are some nice restaurants close by the concierge can help with suggestions.

There has been a change in Bluegreen wifi policy in 2013. It is now free in (almost) all resorts.
How did I keep the sun off my head? Did I rent an umbrella?

Very nice Publix less then one,mile from resort. Also nice restaurants in the same area.

I spoke to someone there. no fee umbrella, but free chairs. valet parking is very high now. since we own at christmas mountain, I am hoping we will be considered owners at 6 a day, otherwise 12 a day. we have a one bedroom, higher up and the person I spoke to said that we should have a view of the ocean and we will have a balcony. we will have a car. he said fee wifi

If you have a balcony, you are likely in the larger 1BR as they all have balconies while Only one of the smaller 1BR has one - so only 6 small 1BR balcony rooms.

All rooms have an ocean view but higher is better. Some are just closer to the ocean...oceanfront 2BRs at 05 and 06, so 04 and 07 1BRs would be the next closest to ocean....I just love sitting on the balcony and gazing at the sea.

If you stay on BG points I believe you get the "owner" rate.
I stayed on someone's points not an exchange and I paid the "owner" rate.
Hopefully that hasn't changed.

May be wise to take whatever CMV "owner card" you have to show you are indeed part of the BG family. May not help but certainly worth it.

The valets are awesome - you can call ahead and they will have your car ready for you.

I was thinking SS also had the safe fee but it has been many years ...

There is (or was when I was last there) one restaurant you can walk to, especially good for lunch but they do dinner, too. If you walk down the beach path to the right if you face the ocean, it's at the Holiday Inn (or equivalent, can't remember). Great burgers. You can sit outside by the pool and eat there.

we checked in, have a nice one bedroom on sixth floor with a nice side view. weather is going to be rainy all week , tomorrow looks good and hope to enjoy the beach
