  • Tampa Beaches

A couple weeks ago after we ran our houseguest to the Clearwater airport, DW said, "Let's run out to the beaches."

Well, after all, it is the 25th anniversary of our first vacation together, a combined business/pleasure trip to Florida, and the week we bought our first timeshare, and we have stayed a few times on the beach in that area.

When we got there we did that drive we've done a few times before. Indian Rocks Beach, North Reddington Beach, Reddington Beach, Madeira Beach, John's Pass, Treasure Island. About then she said, "Let's get back to 275." Of course, that was not as easy as we would have liked it.

We just don't care for all that congestion and wall-to-wall commercial development, where the only time you can see the beach is where someone has torn down a bit of old Florida and a new condo building has not gone up yet.

But, we'll probably have it in our neck o' the Gulf someday, cuz there's only so much Florida.

You might add, only so much ocean front property as well. Exactly why we bought our condo on the Atlantic side during the great property implosion.

Nobody goes there any more because it's so crowded.

        Tampa

Florida's third-largest city, sprawls along the shoreline of Tampa Bay. Despite being on the water, Tampa only has two proper beaches, both along the bay.

Nearby Clearwater's beaches front the Gulf of Mexico on barrier islands connected to the city by a series of bridges.

The majority of the beaches in the Tampa Bay area are in Clearwater Beach On the Gulf of Mexico, Clearwater's barrier islands offer white sand beaches 22 miles from Tampa and adjacent cities, including St. Petersburg.

        Ben T. Davis Beach

Located off of the Courtney Campbell Causeway near Tampa International Airport, Ben T. Davis beach is a narrow swath of sandy shoreline maintained by the city of Tampa Department of Parks and Recreation. The beach offers concessions, picnic shelters, metered parking and restroom facilities. Lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

        Davis Islands Beach

Located on Davis Islands in South Tampa, Davis Islands Beach is a small beachfront area with amenities including a boat ramp, canoe launches, picnic facilities and restrooms.
