We live in New Jersey and pay state income tax. The county offers services for senior citizens and disabled people, including transportation to doctors' appointments and other locations. We got a whole packet of materials with information about free and low-cost services for seniors from the county office for aging when my MIL was alive. She only took advantage of one--a nightly automated wellness call. We all found that very helpful and reassuring.
For those who are saying there are no services in their areas, call your local county government and ask. You might be surprised at what is offered.

Many of the seniors I know are fully capable people with too much time and too much money on their hands. It's like that since they have somehow lived long enough, their bad behavior is getting rewarded.
& in the meantime, our young folks are struggling to make ends meet, while funding the OFs.
Having said that if they take one look at me at Taco Bell and Wendy's, and knock some off my bill, who am I to correct them?

I agree, Ive finally admitted Im a full-fledged Florida senior too, and I dont see the free stuff these guys are talking about. If you want to see how we treat our low income seniors here, shop at Publix, The bag boy's average age must be 80. Some work because they just want to keep busy, but most of the guys Ive talkd to do it to put food on the table....as one guy put it "I made one too many financial mistakes in my life, and here I am at retirement age and I cant do it"
