I've been smelling it when I take my dog for our afternoon hot-dog/cherry coke/beach ride. The beach road on the key is heavily tree-ed, and I can't see the beach or bay, but I know the smell. I have had that familiar irritation when I breathe, too.
It was confirmed on the news tonight . . . a massive, really massive, Red Tide fish kill from Tampa on down. Thousands and thousands of dead fish washing up.
The next three days is Waterfest/Racefest at Englewood Beach, with about 50 big racing boats here for the world championships.
The Red Tide will put a damper on that.
