  • OLCC--Where Exchangers Get Placed

There has been considerable talk that OLCC will place all non-owner exchangers in the oldest section, the West Village, and place owners is the newer areas, the North Village, the East Village, and River Island (in order from oldest to newest). Since OLCC assigns units, they do have the ability to control that.

To see if this policy is enforced, or enforcable, we are going to try to keep track of where exchangers get placed, with everyone's cooperation. Then, when those contemplating an exchange wonder where they might wind up, they can be directed to this information.

For a long time, this has been probably the most common question on another timeshare forum.

Let us know if you are an owner or non-owner and if you made a request in advance. If you wish to make a brief comment about the quality of your unit/vacation, that would be fine, too.

Next, I will post replies from another Internet forum, with proper credit.

I started a thread here and moved the information here because I had reason to believe the thread was in jeopardy on the other forum.

Today a person claiming to be the son of the owner of that website asked me to remove the direct quotes moved from that site. I say claiming to be, not that I doubt that he is who he claims to be, but that almost any type of deception is possible on the Internet and through email. In the eight or so years I have used internet forums I have seen some pretty strange things and definitely a lot of deceptive practices.

I have always tried to be straight-forward, honest, OK blunt, and have found that rubs some people the wrong way, those who have an agenda of their own.

Obviously, I had no intent other than to save the fruits of my labor, and to preserve the information that had been collected. There was no intent on my part other than the educational benefit of sharing the information. There was certainly no commerical gain to be had on my part.

But, rather than debate the points of law, because it is not important, I am removing the direct quotes and paraphrasing instead. I have been told that it would not be inappropriate to include the link.

So as to not be accused of putting words in other people's mouth, or misquoting them by paraphrasing their statements, if you want to see what folks actually said you will have to use the link.

July 31, 2006 Exchange. Owners, but not sure if at OLCC, or somewhere else.

from a posting on tripadvisor, no link available:

Just got back from a week at O.L. We were put in a 2 bedroom Villa in the West Village but quickly walked over and asked to be put in the New River Island area. At 1st they told us their was no way, that it was booked solid but when she plugged something in the computer, surprisingly a room became available. We think the place was actually half empty as this is where they take the timeshare tours. The pool/lazy river wasn't that crowded at all, not like some of the reviews made it out to be.

We were put on the 7th floor directly above the lazy river.

    August 19, 2006. Owner referral.

    Got placed in River Island.

....Anyway, was put into 5455. It was older but in good shape. I did like being near all the activities in the West Village. After all the 'horror' stories of the West Village, I was expecting the worst. We called a head of time and asked to be put anywhere except the WV - we did say the highrise would be ok if we had to be in the WV.....
I have never been to OLCC, so I'm not sure I know how to interpret this. Is 5455 in the West Village? Is it in the highrise that was mentioned in this quote?

Also, where are the Golf Villas and the Tennis Villas?

The Golf Villas and the studios in what is now the West Clubhouse, is what made up the original Orange Lake. That's all that was there on our first tour.

The Tennis Villas are in the West Village, and are the newest buildings in the West Village. They were the first of the highrises, pretty much repeated in the East Village.

5455 is in one of the Tennis Villas highrises.

From days long gone, they are the Tennis Villas because originally there was a huge tennis stadium there, like you would see at professional tennis tournaments. That's one of the things that bit the dust.

                  Thanks, and good for you.

We have a 3-bedroom for Christmas Week. In the past I have requested an area, and never gotten it. I think this time I will just not request and see what they do.

                  Whattya think?

We booked a 2BR Extra Vacation ($250) with an 11/10/06 check-in into the new resort designation, Orange Lake's River Island. My concern all along was that they may try to place us somewhere other than a River Island unit. We arrived for check-in at around 3:00. They couldn't find our confirmation in their computer system, so we stood at the counter for about 20 minutes while they went in search of it. I know the resort received the faxed confirmation from RCI, because I had RCI send it to them the day I booked the week, and I spoke with a reservations rep the following day to ensure they had received it. What became of it is a mystery. In any event, they eventually rematerialized from the back room and said they had found my reservation. The young man in charge then set about assigning us a unit in the system. Before he could tell me where we would be placed, I asked if we might have a pool view in our River Island unit. He looked surprised, then looked again at my confirmation, and set about searching anew in the system. I'm about 95% certain, based on his reaction, that he was about to place us somewhere other than River Island. After a minute or two, he said he had assigned us a pool view unit in River Island.

Having gotten past that hurdle, we headed to our unit. There is only a single 8-story River Island building at this point -- 81000. Our unit was 81204 which was the 4th unit on the 2nd floor. Even numbers overlook River Island and odd numbers overlook the parking lot and some woods beyond (or at least that's how it was on our floor). The unit was quite nice. The carpet (sans padding) had quite a few stains on it for such a new building, there was food residue in the microwave, and a pretty thick layer of dust on some of the furniture, but the unit was otherwise in like-new condition. The floorplan is quite different than the other newer OLCC 2BR units (Tennis Villas, North Village, East Village). It seemed a bit smaller, but not uncomfortably so. They continue to not include a bathtub in the unit except for the jacuzzi in the master suite. Seems to me that they could pay for the cost of a standard tub in each unit with water savings in a relatively short amount of time. Any parent wishing to give a child a bath has to do so in the jacuzzi. It's just not terribly water efficient, not to mention that I'm sure the jacuzzis require more maintenance as the result of too many children's bubble baths -- but I digress.

While my husband was unloading the car, an OLCC employee came into the unit and told us it was assigned to someone from a group he was handling (I assume he was a sales rep). They had apparently double-assigned our unit. When he called the front desk, they told him that, as exchangers, we should have been assigned to another section of the resort. I showed him my confirmation and asked him to tell them that it indicated "River Island." He was very nice, and asked them to reassign his party to another River Island unit. When he hung up, he said that they had us originally in the East Village. Everything worked out fine for us, but the moral of this story is that you may have to be insistent if you exchange into the resort designation "Orange Lake's River Island."

The rest of our weekend was uneventful with the exception of our keys not working after the double-assignment fiasco was corrected, but a quick stop at the concierge stand on the 1st floor remedied that. And there was a 2-hour power failure on Saturday morning. About 15 minutes in, because we were trying to get dressed for a family event, I called the front desk and politely asked if they had any idea how long it would be off. I was rudely told by a female operator that they had no idea how long it would be, that they were working on it, and that she was sitting in the dark too. Sigh.

All the small negatives aside, we had a lovely weekend. The River Island pool was plenty warm. The crowd was not unreasonably or uncomfortably large. We skipped the overpriced tube rentals and just swam/floated the lazy river. It's almost more fun that way anyhow. We gave the rest of our week to some friends since our little girl had to be back in kindergarten today. I'm sure they're having a very nice time.

We own a 2-bedroom unit at OLCC. For a large family reunion of 12, we deposited two years of the 2-bdrm units with RCI and exchanged for two 3-bedroom units for the same week.

Our home unit is in the apartment buildings on Magnolia. We requested the 3-bedrooms to be on the same floor, and were given two units on the third floor in the 86400 building in East Village. (We asked at the registration desk if there was any way to get into River Island, but they just said No Way.)

We were very happy with the location of our unit, close to everything (3/10 mile to River Island), great view, clean, well stocked etc.

                        A good trade.

                        Chris

                              Rick:

                              Welcome aboard.

This is your first post, so I hope you don't think I'm picking on you. Your opinion, and everyone's is welcome. There are plenty of places to express opinions about OL on other threads or by starting a new one of your own. This one happens to be for the sole purpose of keeping a record of where exchangers get placed, so, sorta like Ask RCI OY, I would like to discourage idle gossip on this thread.

The last thing I would want to be accused of is being an opinion cop, and that is not what I am doing. What I am doing is asking, as a favor, for you to move your post to a new thread or one of the other OL threads.

Thanks, and have a nice day.
