Trading into Orlando

We are in the process of purchasing a timeshare in the Berkshares to use for trading mostly in orlando. We will be getting a 2006 week that I will bank with RCI asap. Does anyone have any idea what my chances are of getting a property in orlando August 2007? My first choice would be HGVC - International Drive.

If you get this deal done by end of year you should have no problems. If you can go at the last week of August you are golden.

Too early for the HGVCs. They will bank summer 2007 sometime in first quarter.

Of course past performance is no indicator of future exchanges but I see 3 bdrm Cypress Pointe and OLCC and 2 BDRM Summer Bays right now for August 07 None of those are a shabby trade.

Any 2006 week that you deposit now will be a late deposit and will not have maximum trading power.

Here is RCI for five weeks starting 7/27/07:

Strong trader: A Total of 30 Resorts were found for FLORIDA/FLORIDA:
ORLANDO AREA
Average Trader: A Total of 24 Resorts were found for FLORIDA/FLORIDA:
ORLANDO AREA

The differences were subtle. The better trader saw a few more Gold Crowns and 3-bedroom units the average trader did not.

Thanks both of you for the information. I didn't realize that a late 2006 banked week would be hard to trade in 2007. We usually go to orlando the first 2 weeks of August, before college for my sons and before high school football for my youngest. Does HGVC not become available until winter of 2007, I wonder if I should wait for that. I would also go back to vistana villages, we loved their pool area.

The issue isn't that you want to get a week for 2007. The problem is that RCI cares a lot about how far in advance you bank your week. If you bank less than a year before the check-in date, RCI will reduce your trade power. This is especially true for weeks whose trade power is only modest to begin with -- I'm not an expert on the Berkshires, but I don't think they have especially good trade power. You may want to do something with the 2006 week rather than give it to RCI. What is the actual check-in date?

Also, the first two weeks of August in Orlando are a much tougher trade than the last two weeks of August. I don't have a good RCI Weeks trader; maybe someone else can search early August for you.

A solution would be to have the owner bank the week NOW if they have an RCI account and then pay the $49 transfer fee after the paper work is completed. Even then it is too close to use to get anything with RCI if deposited. I have no idea what the timeframe is for deed transfer on the Berkshires but my Cape Cod transfer too nearly 6 months.

Some resorts bulk bank and when owners call to deposit they will generally assign one of the weeks that was pre-deposited approx 12 months prior.

Be sure to check which week you are getting with this as 2006 is mostly over.

You should be able to get Orlando anyway if you aren't overly fussy about the resort or if you jump on a Bulk Spacebank as soon as they are listed in the Exchange Opportunity boards. First half of August is harder than second half.

In the past HGVC has deposited 6 months out for Orlando but that doesn't necessarily mean they will do so going forward OR that the week you get will have the trade power to get one of them.

I'd check the first 2 weeks for you but RCI is doing their weekly "how can we screw up the on-line website" now. I'll try to look again in the morning for you.

Anything past week 40 or so won't be red and won't be worth a hill of beans to trade with RCI if deposited now.

Looking at Intervals trade index for Berkshires it Summer week 26 to 34 or it's worthless.

Can you get the owner to eat the week and the MFs?

Then see if they have an RCI account. If so have them deposit the week NOW.

Even a late deposit can get you something in Orlando in August but again you must be flexible in which resort/unit size you will accept. You may also have to play a little russian roulette with it. As in you won't know what you've got until very shortly before check-in. Late deposits are pretty much good for only the 45 day window prior to check-in.

I can tell you I saw a LOT of Last Call Orlando for LATE August recently...but that is not when you want to go. Most but not all Last Calls are also available for exchange.

If you're mainly interested in HGVC in Orlando, why not look at some of the Hiltons on eBay. With HGVC point flexibility, you can reserve some prime weeks to deposit with SFX that gets you bonus weeks in addition.

Exchanging into Hilton Grand Vacations Club at Sea World in Orlando in August 2007 with a Berkshire resort is going to be a hard trade. I would suggest you give RCI a least six options of Gold Crown Resorts to exchange into beside HGVC at Sea World. Example both Cypress Pointe Resort & CY Pointe Grandvillas, Fairfield at Cypress Palms, Sheraton's Vistana Resort & Sheraton's Vistana Villages, Silver Lake Resort, Summer Bay Resort, Orange Lake Country Club and Vacation Village at Parkway.

Is it possible the owner has already deposited 2006?

Here's what I'm seeing for two weeks starting July 28:

A Total of 27 Resorts were found for FLORIDA/FLORIDA: ORLANDO AREA

6 Gold Crowns and 2 with three bedroom units.

Later in the month there are 2 more Gold Crowns, 1 with a 4-bedroom unit and two more with three bedroom units, including Houses at Summer Bay.
