  • Fishing - Key West - Mid December

How is the Fishing around Key West in mid December?

Any recommendations for my wife and a friend for fishing - Charter, Make-up Charter and/or Party Boat? They are staying in Key West.

How soon ahead of time for reservations?

    Thanks

Fishin is always good in Key West ~~ I always use the White Street pier for fishin & it was finished bout three weeks ago due to hurricane Wilma ~~ Ifin you want to go fishin out in the Gulf you can go on a charter boat for bout $330 for a half day ~~ Just make sure you don't go out on a cattle boat ~~ Bunch of people on the boat ~~ Just tooooooo many people for me ~~ There are plenty of boat Captains around the Bight for hire plus the Westin Resort & Marina ~~ Formally the Hiton ~~ Somethimes its better to ask the 1st mate or the Captain how much he charges ~~ It can be a little cheaper than goin through a company ~~ It might be a little cool in the mornin so make sure you bring a jacket with ya ~~

We were there Week 1, in a unit on the 4th floor overlooking the marina. Plenty of fishing boats were available. Some did not go out some days even though the weather was excellent every day.

One of the boats was right below our unit and their cleaning station was right there too. The days they cleaned fish, huge tarpon would gather where they were throwing the scraps in. Huge!

Between the tarpon, the cats, the gulls, and the pelicans, it was entertaining!

Fond memory, something everyone should do at least once, to mark it off the list!

Oh yeah. For anyone staying at The Galleon, the Activities/Sales gals can get you discounts on a lot of stuff. We enjoyed going out on the tallships and pretending to help them sail them! Ayeeeee, Matey!

There is also a little fishing station at The Galleon, in the corner outside the jetty for the bight. They were catching fish there.

If I were to fish there, I think I would prefer flats fishing in the mangroves.

        scuba diving in Key West?

I have a Hyatt Beach House reservation Dec 17-24. I did an introductory dive in Hawaii this year and might want to try it again in Key West which I heard was great for diving. Anyone with suggestions of company to go to and things to do around Key West?

        Thanks,
        Mary

p.s. riverdees05, when is your group in Key West?

Enjoy! The Florida Keys are my favorite. In Big Pine Key, there is a restaurant called KDs which will cook your catch any way you want, serve it with bread, potato, veggie and key lime pie, all for about $10. Great deal. It's about 1/2 hour from Key West.
