  • The Second Annual OL Pedo Award

Despite the lackluster participation of the inaugural OL Pedo Award, the sparse posting on this Florida board, and the short amount of time before we are off to Orange Lake Country Club, I really do not want to hang on to Mr. Bum's pedometer forever.

If someone could notify our friends and neighbors OY, perhaps someone from there may want to participate.

Here's the deal. We are checking into OL 12/23. I am going to ask a question concerning the distance from something to something at OL, measured in paces on the official OL Pedometer. I can't tell you anything about how the pedometer works because I haven't used it yet. It arrived from Mr. Bum with a little instruction book. Maybe I'll read it on the plane.

Anyone is free to enter, but the pedometer will be sent to the person who is closest and is planning on going to OL in the future. I guess even if you aren't going to stay there, but will go in to take another measurement, that would work. In any event, the OL Pedo will go to someone who will continue this fine tradition, that of having a contest to see how far it is from one point to another in OL.

Because of the short notice, I will not name the winner, if there is one, or, if there is a guess at all, until I am back home, around 1/8/07.

    OK, here is my question.

How far is it from the front door of our unit to the nearest hot tub, walking, and not taking any elevators?

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy New Year, and may the force be with you.

    Interesting.

I have a slight clue as to where you will be staying though or at least the unit size.

Of course you gave more than a hint with the qualifier of not taking any elevators.

    I like the question.

Like I said, I will keep this open until we are back, 1/8/07.

Here is an excellent opportunity for someone to receive the highly coveted OL Pedo award, complete with a working (I assume) pedometer, one that is steeped in tradition.

          JLB,

What unit of measurement do we use? feet, inches, steps, miles, yards?

I will take a guess if you will let me know what measurement I should use.

            Feet.

Now that I sense a rising interest level, let me restate the question.

How far will it be, in feet, from the front door of whatever unit we get assigned to the nearest hot tub, not taking elevators?

Well not knowing where you will be staying makes it tough. 654 feet is my guess.

Mike , I think you are off by a mile.

Well I know that Jim got a 3 Bedroom but that doesn't help with the answers too much.

The 3-bedroom units in the North Village are the end units on the ground floor of the 6-plexes (4 units on the ground level, 2 on the second level). The East Village and Tennis Village have the 3-bedroom units at the end of the building on each floor.

The absolute CLOSEST you could be to a hot tub would be assigned to Tennis Villas Ground Floor. That would be a short stroll to the <unheated> West Village Pool Complex. You might not need to take an elevator and I would think that would be under 1/4 mile.

HOWEVER you could be way up off the golf course and have to walk all the way around or furthest away from splash lagoon too.

Mike's guess of a mile isn't too far off.

Actually if I was to request a location, it would be the 86700 and 86800 buildings, the two on either side of the East Village Pool plex. The is a hot tub there. Ands since the hot tub is on the 86700 side of the poolplex, that might be the shortest distance by a few feet.

No one has mentioned if the new toll road affects those building at all. It runs right by them.

OY I have been requested to take the pool temps as I did once before, and post them. A good tiebreaker question (in the event the right answer is 2967 ) would be if I walked to do that and I did all the pools, how far would I have to walk to do that?

See it would be easier if they actually had the hot tubs marked on the resort map but the only thing I have on mine ( prior to RI completion and the toll road) are the pools.

I have to work on the assumption that there are indeed hot tubs there and that there AREN'T any hot tubs lying about in other locales.

In reality I am giving hints as OLCC and Orlando area itself is WAY down on the revisit list.

                          JLB,

Oopss, I just re-read your original post and the qualifiers to participate. Although I would like to win, I will not be going to OL anytime soon to do future measurements.

You can disqualify me from winning, even if I'm the only one to play.

I think when we speed read we tend to miss things. That's why Mike is not alone. I am not sure when I will be going back to OLCC. The next time might be untill 08 or most likely 09.

OK, you don't have to be going to OL to participate.

If you win you just have to figure out some way to pass the OL Pedo on, maybe by having someone who is going do a measurement for you.
