I'm new to TS4MS and I am not sure this is the best place for my posting, but TS is in Florida. This is a sad, mixed up tale...with some mystery, too. We and 900 others are owners in a small delightful Gulf front t/s called Camelot by the Sea in charming Pass-a-Grille on the southern most tip of St Pete Beach, FL. In mid December word came to us that the property had been sold at a TAX SALE by Pinellas County . Fortunately one owner, Richard, set up a Yahoo Group site which allowed us to communicate..and much dialogue developed and owners who live in the area have met together with local authorities and the purchaser, Luke Investments invited hemselves and flew in to tell their story..The ineffective BofD hired lawyers, owners were deciding that they had better retain their own lawyers, the St P Times had reporters and a story..the insurance company was notified, and reports to the FL dept that regulates t/s (and we up here in Northern Illinois appreciate those dedicated people doing al the work..me I just write letters..by my writing and posting a TUG2.net member JGJ told me about TS4MS. Thanks JGJ. .The mystery is that the taxes due were $189,000 and there is $400,000 in the Assn bank, etc accounts??? Why were the unpaid tax notices signed for and ignored, why were posting of impending tax sales notices taken down and all ignored. When the tax sale was completed the purchaser, Luke, took immediate control of Camelot evicting with security people telling owners and renters to vacate at once. Dec 30th (I think it was) Pinellas County official admitted THE TAX SALE WAS A MISTAKE (I like these symbols) and now it is up to a Judge to rule???? This is just synopis of the story...if I whetted your interest read the postings (today there were 344 by now I am sure more) go to www.yahoo.com click on "GROUPS", there search "Camelot by the Sea" and you can read the sad story of a mismanged and unmonitored timeshare and get a sense of the betrayal and confusion some of us feel..and urge you to be watchful of your t/s bod although I am not sure how you do that...I guess most of us have a lot of trust in our fellow man....and don't go around being "watchful". On www.tug2.net there is also a discussion going on about Camelot...and I found it to be less emotional and factual than many of the entries on our Yahoo site and some of their wise words of advise have been posted on our site by our moderator and others have fed us other ideas and several informative web sites...Barney B

There has also been some discussion of this sad situation at www.streettalkblog.com
I wonder if the BOD let their Directors Liability Insurance premiums lapse, too.
It would seem like they will need that coverage for this royal screwup.

It is a pretty amazing story. Most people do not have the time nor inclination to even pay attention to what is happening at their HOA. And then doing something about it is an entirely different amount of effort and money. It usually takes a big event or special assessment to get people to pay attention and take action. Unfortunately this case is like the worst case scenario.
Good luck and keep us posted please."If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."
-- Thomas Jefferson to Col. Yancey, 1816
