It was strange to see that toll booth and big highway just passed Publix from East OL Blvd. We were also in the East Village highrise second closest to the highway.
But, I was surprised how little you notice it. Perhaps because of the fairway between our building and the highway and perhaps because there is just so much traffic, congestion and noise in Orlando that by comparison the relatively light traffic on 429 is almost unnoticable.
If you hadn't been there before, to know that it splits OL in half, it probably wouldn't occur to you.
No one was using it to get to Disney, so that possibility kinda fizzled.
We were there the busiest week in Orlando and to get to I4 from OL, and then go toward downtown would have taken hours and hours. To get to golf course just passed the downtown exits we took 429, the turnpike, 408 and about 2 miles of I-4, and never got into stopped traffic. That was worth the tolls.
Added: So, the toll road is less offensive than I thought it would be, but it is still a shame that it has to cut OLCC property in half. It is just non-resort clutter cutting through the middle of a resort, detracting from the vacation atmosphere. If you can picture four-lane, divided, limited access highway running though your neighborhood, you should be able to see my point.
