  • Florida Keys Islands for Sale

The thread on the World's Smallest Country for sale got me thinking.

My mother owns an island in the Florida Keys just off Duck Key. It is actually two islands and have a combined 46 acres or so.

The price is $2.9 million, but we do not have any building permits and the Keys are pretty restrictive on what can be developed there...such as No condos, no timeshares, no hotels...etc.

Any ideas would be great and I would offer a sales commission if anyone can send a sales lead to me as I developed the web site and am handling the sale for my mother.

Maybe you could get some of the people who sold their shares at Briney Beach in Florida to buy the island, as each will get over a million dollars when the sale goes through. Not bad for a trailer home.

Don't even get me started on that one...the president of OceanLand (the company with the $510 million) lives in my neighborhood about 10 houses away and the VP (who sold out 6 months ago to move to Vancouver) is a very good friend of mine and we vacationed together several times.

Neither one of them gave me any "hot tips" so I could buy one before they made their offer....I am a tiny bit disapointed at missing this golden goose....but they did not want anyone to know about this deal until they made their offer.

I actually thought of that...however I am not a developer and we simply want to sell the islands...I would pay a bonue to any referrals that result in a sale.

Why don't you donate it or bequeath it to the Nature Conservancy? You'd get a nice tax write off and you'd be helping Florida's fragile ecosystems survive for future generations.

Several people want us to do that....the problem is that I do not make 10's of millions of dollars where I can donate a $2.9 million property and write off the donation.

But we would gladly sell it to a billionaire and let them donate it for a tax deduction.

Cruise lines own several private islands that they stop at for a day of beach R and R or for water sports. They create a resort like setting with swimming pools, Water sports, beach, restaurant etc. etc. Don't know how you would market the sale geared for cruise ships but It may be something to look into.
