  • JLB - Kissimmee Florida - Motel Stay

JLB: What was the name (chain) & location of the
Kissimmee Motel that your stayed at in December?

How would you rate the check-in, room and motel amenities
Did the Motel offer any type of free transportation to the parks
Was your motel room clean and offer a mini refrig & coffee pot

How much were they charging for a night stay the week prior to xmas
How would you compare the value compared to staying in a timeshare

I Hotwired it and we got stuck with a Howard Johnson on 192. It sucked.

I picked the 192 area because we had a morning tour at Westgate the morning after we arrived late the previous night, I expected traffic in all of Orlando to be heavy that week, and it would close to OLCC where we moved to Saturday.

If I had to do it again I would have picked the Universal or the West Airport zone, where we likely would have gotten one of the extended stay studio suite type hotels. They are much newer, cleaner and less stinky.

On top of it, when I checked out they charged $7.50 more, what they called a resort fee. Of course I could not resist asking exactly what resort we were staying in?

They claimed all the Kissimme motels charge a resort fee just because they are close to Disney.

I believe it had a 2 star rating on Hotwire, but on Priceline it would not have been more than a 1 star.

Just don't Hotwire or Priceline for Kissimmee/192. Do another area.

On the other hand, I Pricelined two rooms in the Tampa area for our last night, before flying home last Sunday. I got a very nice Hilton Garden Inn near Brandon, for $45, a deal in snowbird season on the left coast. It was rated 2.5 stars and was in an upsclae business park at the Mango exit, the first one south of I-4 on I-75.

Heading north from Naples, it was the first hotel I could get for under $50 on Priceline or Hotwire. Even 1 star motels further south, like Sarasota, were $75 or higher.

Several years ago I Pricelined a La Quinta in Ft. Myers to fill in a night after a week of timeshare, before we went home. When we checked in, the actual rate they were charging the public was $149, and it sold out early.
