  • OLCC: How far is it from Australia to Over Yonder?

    Not very far it seems.

Return with us now to the thrilling days of yesteryear Over Yonder.

When we returned from OLCC in January, 2004, I reported a conversation I had had with a couple of Aussies in the East Village hot tub at OLCC. A couple of mean-spirited owners took exception to the things I reported that they said, a brouhaha ensued, folks got suspended and one person got banned.

A mushroom cloud extended over everything Over Yonder and by the Summer of 2004, the fallout led to a lot of fallout.

Me and mine just returned from OL, a week of sitting in that same hot tub, longing for fresh BBQ.

So, what are the odds that now, at this exact moment, one of those Aussies will stumble in Over Yonder, as a guest making their first post, and ask a question about OL?

    I find this totally un-fricking-believable.

I thought it was really a funny coincidence, that they would find that thread, just after you posted. I will be watching for further posts by those guys.

Oh this is just TOO rich for me.

Well at least they are observing the 1-in-3 rule.

        Easy there!

I continue to be amazed by the coincidences of life. I am convinced that nothing you do will ever leave you; it is always there to reappear.

Of course I'm amazed that they showed up, and that they have no idea what their comments precipitated. I'm amazed that they are going to stay at OL again.

I'm almost afraid to tell them the telly charges have gone up to a dollar, are there still are no BBQ grills at OL.

Yup, it's really them. He just posted that he saved his notes from when we talked, and that's he how he knew about OY.

          I still can't believe it.

It will be interesting to see how his stay goes and if he remains on TUG.

            Small world, isn't it?

JLB-It is a small world-We were in Orlando for the Builder's Show and sat in that same hot tub with the same people for a couple nights and can also confirm that they were NOT all that happy with OLCC.

I had no idea that OLCC charge for the tv! Are you serious? We must have paid without reading the account.

Is that thread still around? I looked under the heading and couldn't find it. I had been a member of tug for a long time but never really ventured into the forums until the last year or so. I don't believe that I have read that thread and it sounds like it might have gotten interesting. I understand that at times things might get misunderstood but I'm curious about what got people so riled up. Nothing in the comments that you had mention in previous posts that I've read should have gotten people in tatters.

G, I was actually thinking about you, and some other OLCC owners I have met or know through these forums, and that you or they were not involved in that thread, and how nice it would have been for a voice of reason to have been.

It was on the last version of the bbs, which was saved somewhere for awhile, but is likely gone now. If any one thread would disappear, it would likely be that one. You might ask the caretakers if there are archives back to January/February, 2004. I can assure you that they likely do not want to revisit it, although for a historical and educational purpose, it might be nice to, much as we stufy past wars to try to learn how we got where we are.

You are right, that there was really nothing inflammatory posted, just the honest opinions of a few guests met at random. I also reported on the overbooking, the significant number of guests being turned away at check-in, since being turned away at check-in is a long-running question OY, whether that could be done. Then there was the 45 minute wait I had at Express checkout, where I had to listen to more discord, that time from an owner. Of course, my notorious comments about the lack of hot-tubs and BBQ grills probably originated in that thread.

As one whose introduction to timesharing was at OLCC almost 20 years prior, the week we bought our first timeshare, and one who had been back every now and then, and watched it grow into matruity, and who had always held OL in high regard, that week was shocking, and, thus, my thread was entitled Where Never is Heard a Discouraging Word.

In any event, that is where I got labeled a hater of OL.

As is almost always the case, time is the best friend of the truth, so I try to stick as close to it as I can (the truth that is). (Ask Thomas Jefferson)

He may mean the telephone, Syd. Those mid country folks have some language peculiarities.

Sorry, I was just trying to imitate my new-found Aussie cousins. They were throwing out words I had never heard before, like sife.

But, yup, phone charges, the dollar for dialing from OL (at that time $.85). (Dialing for Dollars?)

"It's A Small World After All" ..... sing it with me

Yes, and a grill lover.... that could be even worse in some circles.
Gosh do I remember that thread, both grills and OL...

I love that the Aussie boys found and posted on TUG, coming there after all that time , you did good Jim, you taught them well.

Maybe it was us! Do you see any similarities between the photo next to this post <<<<<-------and this couple.

Our true disappointment was possibly caused by a vacation guide at RCI, who talked us into the exchange and insisted OLCC was the best resort in Orlando. I would put our exerience at about number 30, and even at that, I am being generous. We stay in Orlando resorts several weeks a year and it was definitely one of the worst, but it really is all about the unit you get. Now any three bedroom will probably be just fine for us to try next time, but I see many River Island units and they are only 52,500 RCI points. That is not bad at all.
