  • Not Disney

We're staying at Summer Bay next month and probably won't do Disney since we did it 3 different weeks 2 years ago. How are Universal and SeaWorld? Which would you recommend. We are 3 adults; 2 which only ride mild (think Small World, Pirates of Caribbean, etc.) rides and one that loves all types of rides.

Anyway I'm interested in thoughts about these 2 parks.

    Thanks,

    Nancy

We love Sea World! The seal and otter show is my favorite, very funny. For the Shamu show, try to go to the evening show--at least when we went, it was a little less worshipful and more lighthearted.

If you're willing to drive and haven't been there before I highly recommend Kennedy Space Center.

We like both Universal, and Sea World....Universal has some great roller coasters, but they also have some fairly calm rides, including a few simulated ones. It's cheaper than Disney, and you can usually get a two day pass, for the price of one....That would be my choice.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

With Seaworld, I believe they often offer 'buy a day pass and get to come all week' kind of ticket - LOL, that is not a catchy name, is it!

definitely a nice day or 2 for adults - rides and great shows, nice dinning, etc.

We got that pass at Sea World, or something even less catchy--something like "come one night after five o'clock and you can come every night of the week after five o'clock." That was great b/c we would arrive around five or six every evening, after the heat of the day, and the park was less crowded. It was like walking around a great park with animal shows and playgrounds. The parking was cheaper, too. This was about 8 years ago, though--don't know if they still offer the same pass.

I am probably one of the few that does not care for SEAWORLD. I do like Universal, Both parks re not to be missed. As Luanne suggested Kennedy space center is a nice thing to see. We also liked Bush Gardens in Tampa.

                Frank,

Not too many people like Bush Gardens anymore. In fact, lots of Bush beer lovers have given that up, too. Nothing Bush does is well liked anymore.

Thanks for all the answers so far

Thanks for the answers so far. I can see it's a mixed bag. Busch Gardens is not an option because we live 6 months of the year fairly near there. Also usually spend one week at Cocoa Beach so not interested in the Space Center, or any other place that requires too much driving to get to.

Sea World has a fairly cheap yearly pass. Universal also has some interesting passes, all much more reasonable than Disney.

                  Thanks

                  Nancy

While Universal is okay. No one does it like Disney. The two don't even compare.
When we visit Orlando, we usually spend a day between the two parks at Universal. In fact on our last trip we spent more time at City Walk than in the Universal parks. The Universal parks don't have the same "magic" that the Disney parks do.
We did enjoy Sea World and definatly would visit again. On our next trip to Orlando in May we probably won't even visit any of the parks. There is a lot to do in Orlando and one can spend time shopping and visiting the admission free areas of Disney and Universal.

                        Hi,

Probably will skip that this trip as we don't want to wander too far from Summer Bay.

                        Thanks for the info,

                        Nancy

Have you tried the pool? It shouldn't be too far away and if you're lucky you'll find a Bar there.

We love Seaworld. I really want to do Discovery Cove. It is expensive, but you get to swim with dolphins, spend all day swimming and walking around the avery, and have lunch. Last time I checked they were giving a week's pass to Seaworld along with any Discovery Cove ticket. There is also a ticket that is cheaper that includes everything but the actual dolphin swim.

Even though you say no Disney, you might consider Epcot and/or Animal Kingdom. These are the least "Disney" of the Disney parks. They are very adult and may have changed a lot since you were last there.

How about a trip to Cypress Gardens? Straight down Rt. 27 from Summers Bay.

It has a lot more amusement rides then it did years ago.

                              Cypress Gardens - Directions!

                              Just another option.
