Besides the Keys, where else in Florida would you recommend for scuba diving and snorkeling? I am looking to make an exchange to a nice resort in Florida to take the family over X-mas vacation 2008. Our experience with Florida is limited to DisneyWorld. I understand that getting an exchange to the Keys may be difficult. Where else should we consider that would be good for the family and include the ability to dive? Thanks.

No guarantees....espically if you rule out the area below Miami (the Keys)
There are various reefs off the SE Fl coast. The water will be warmest from the Keys (and clearest here) north to about Vero Beach....because the Gulfstream Current keeps it warmer.
When we arrived the last week in December the coastal waters off Broward Cty were 78 F And the water, even along the beach line was very clear.
Usually, the water stays clearer out beyond the reefs, but its not like the Caymans or even the Keys.
There are several dive and snorkle boats in Ft Lauderdale, and they seem to be busy. (The fishing boats seem busier)
If you want, I'll check links to websites and you can contact. Suzanne, (in Broward) has dive info, and hopefully, she might see this post. They are avid divers......and I've seem her post treks to the keys when Pompano & Ft LAuderdale beach front are just a few minutes away.

There's a very good reef system but like anything it all depends on vis that time of year. Not sure if there are any timeshares near Boynton Beach but this is a diveshop I recommend:
Splashdown Divers - Palm Beach County, Florida - Scuba Diving Boats and Charters - PADI Scuba Diving Certification - Serving West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Highland Beach, Delray Beach, Boca Raton, Florida.
Explore their website. They have all kinds of info about the reef system there and suitability and best locations for diving and snorkeling too."Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed and those who are cold and are not clothed."

Livetodive:
From Suzanne's e mail:
( Suzannes' husband is Bill. their shop is) Dixie Divers in the Cove Shoppping Center in Deerfield Beach. Phone number there is 954-420-0009. Tell him if he contacts Bill to let him know a tugger recommended him.
Deerfield Beach is just a few miles north on A1A from Pompano Beach...still in Broward County.
