Actually, that was not the ones we wish we hadn't seen, and that treatment just made us feel like we were still at home.

There's already been two gunshots this morning.

I saw a night time reentry over Oregon several years ago. Happened to be watching the 11 PM news and they announced it was coming. Florida was closed down because of weather and they had to reroute to California to land.
It was the most spectacular thing I have ever seen. A giant orange fireball moving from the north horizon to the south horizon at 3000 MPH. I could even hear the roar. WOW! It still gives me chills just thinking about it.

On the 2 I have seen going up, I was always lucky finding parking near where the cruise ships dock. The area to the north has a direct view across the water. It takes about 40 seconds for the sound to reach that area. So my guess is 8 miles.

To make this calculation you use the formula a pint's a pound the world around.

I also have always wanted to see this. One year we were in Florida and were ready to drive to the Cape to see it but it was postponed due to weather.

One of my best friend's dad worked for Rockwell in CA and finally made it to the Cape for a launch and witnessed the Challenger Disaster. It was very sad and he was depressed for some time.
I can imagine that. I still remember it so well and we were only watching it at the airport in Maui going back home. There was a fellow sitting there, who had a family member on board. He started crying and it was heart breaking to see him.

I am glad you saw the lauch and what great pictures, Luanne.

I've seen a launch twice now... from South Florida. All you can see from that distance is the contrail, which arcs noticeably to the east.

The one time I made the drive up to Merritt Island the lauch was scrubbed. I turned around and drove back home. Had I stayed the night, I would've witnessed the launch the next day.

I'm thinking about driving down for the June 8th launch. I happen to have that day off.
