  • I have always wanted to see this! Space Shuttle Launch

TS4Ms Luanne has a new avatar - I asked her to send it to me BIGGER so I could see it.
She and her family saw the Space Shuttle Launch several years ago and she gave me permission to post these photos.

I hope I will be able to see the shuttle launch LIVE one day.

    Take-off......

    Landing......

    Finished......

There is suppose to be a shuttle launch on June 8th. I get into Orlando early in the morning on June 9th. Hopefully the launch will be delayed so I can watch it take off. I have always wanted to see that too.

        Great pictures. Thanks.

I also have always wanted to see this. One year we were in Florida and were ready to drive to the Cape to see it but it was postponed due to weather.

One of my best friend's dad worked for Rockwell in CA and finally made it to the Cape for a launch and witnessed the Challenger Disaster. It was very sad and he was depressed for some time.

I agree: amazing! I've seen the shuttle in the night sky after an evening launch, and that was something to see too.

We went over to see quite a few years ago and it was pretty spectacular.
They took us by bus to this little beach area across a lagon from the launch site and you were still a ways away but the thing I remember most was the way the ground shook as the shuttle took off. It was well worth going to.

We were in Orlando on year and one day went to Cocoa Beach and were lucky enough to see the shuttle take off from there (it had been delayed 4 days, so the timing worked our for us).

I came close once to seeing it. I was in Orlando and the flight got delayed so I missed it. One day I hope to see it.

Many years ago my family and I went to Orlando to watch the Space Shuttle launch with Kathleen Sullivan when she was going to walk in space, first woman walking in space stuff.

It was a great time. We hung out all night long before the launch. When the shuttle lifted off, it look like it had exploded but it was just all of the water turning into steam. Watching the shuttle lift off and head off into the sky was a lifelong memory. In 5 minutes they were announcing that the shuttle was over London.

If you ever have a chance to do this, do it! You will understand how dangerous the lift off is and how brave the men and women on board are.

Great pictures, thank you for posting!

Can anyone go and see a launch? Is there some sort of public viewing area? Or is it just so big that you can see it for miles around?

                          Well Pat, you're in luck....................

I have a friend* who works there at NASA & Patrick AFB who always wants me to come down to view a launch from the VIP section. I've been saving this event so that I can take my great-nephews & nephew down during the summer or school vacations.

The only problem is the launch time which can be scrubbed time after time due to issues in weather, etc.

I will let you know when I'm going and you can come, too ! I might me able to get a few more
from '4ms nations in. Not sure, but will ask

                          *for more info, PM me.

I must admit, I didn't see the shuttle (or landing) of the pictures Pat posted. But I have seen two launches. One from the causeway, when they were still allowing "regular" people (with passes) to view from there, and the second one from the beach in front a friend's home. The pictures Pat posted were taken by the dd of my best friend who works at Kennedy Space Center, until recently on the launch pad. From time to time she will send pictures and these were a few of the ones I'd saved.

I don't know where the viewing areas are today, after 9/11. But when we went, the closest was 3 miles for the VIP section and 6 miles across the lagoon. We were across the lagoon. Didn't really need binoculars but they were nice to have to see better.
