  • Looking for recommendation Clearwater or Destin

looking to exchange week w/ RCI for timeshare either in Destin or Clearwater for the middle of June 08.

Can anyone recommend a few good ones. We already have the first week in Orlando w/ my girls 11 and 7, for the Disney adventure, so the second week June 13th/14th we are looking for some nice down time right on the beach. I was in another post someone mentioned cameron cove.

    Appreciate any opinions, thoughts, etc...

    Thanks
    Tony

    availability Low, both places

It doesnt look positive for that week in June. Not any availability on the gulf side during the summer months in RCI Exchange.

Searching May 30 for 3 weeks, I see:

A Total of 57 Resorts were found for FLORIDA/FLORIDA: RESORTS ON THE BEACH

I would recommend the following, based primarily on the areas.

        Sea Oats Beach Club (#0763)
        Englewood, FL 34223, USA
        Available Unit Size - 1 - 1
        Check-in Date Range - 06/14/2008 - 06/14/2008

        Island Towers (#0173)
Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931, USA
        Available Unit Size - 1 - 1
        Check-in Date Range - 05/31/2008 - 05/31/2008

        Resort Sixty-Six (#0478)
        Holmes Beach, FL 34217, USA
        Available Unit Size - 1 - 1
        Check-in Date Range - 05/31/2008 - 05/31/2008

        Island Gulf Resort (#0671)
        Madeira Beach, FL 33708, USA
        Available Unit Size - 1 - 1
        Check-in Date Range - 05/31/2008 - 05/31/2008

        Sarasota Sands (#0301)
        Sarasota, FL 34236, USA
        Available Unit Size - S - 1
        Check-in Date Range - 05/31/2008 - 05/31/2008

        Treasure Island Beach Club (#0778)
        Treasure Island, FL 33706, USA
        Available Unit Size - 1 - 1
        Check-in Date Range - 06/14/2008 - 06/14/2008

          not enough uuummmphh

It doesnt appear I can see these either currently. My exchange is Grand Beach Phase I- Orlando wk 37. Doesnt seem to have enough trading power to get anything in Florida Gulf at this time. I do have an ongoing search though. If I were to rent on the gulf coast anyone have good location on/near beach that is reasonable (under 800 /wk)?

And thanks for posting the original reply that helps out JBL.

I would think the west coast at that time (or almost any time) will be tough. Redweek has at least one on the east coast with your timeframe for $900 and one in Daytona for $500.

              Like my speakers?

Sorry, but it is unlikely that an ongoing search will get anything if it is a trading power issue. If you can't see it, you can't see it, at least until the last 14-45 days, at which time those resorts will be long gone.

I have been going to Florida beaches since the 70's. If you will post what you can see, I can make recommendations.

The Great Carnac preducts that what you can see is primarily in the NE, from Melbourne on up, mostly Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach and New Smyrna Beach, plus the Panhandle and a lesser resort or two elsewhere, like Tampa area and the SE.

A lesser trader normally will not see anything on the beach south of the Tampa area or in the Keys.

Oh Yeah, bright red in Orlando is Weeks 51-52 and 26-32. Spring Break/President's Week have become popular in recent years, but I don't know if enough to affect trading power.

In Orlando we have owned 23, 28, 29, 44 and 45. Only 28 and 29 had anything approaching at least moderate trading power. We don't own any of the now.

Speaking of trading power, one item that they don't seem to factor in is whether a deposited week always get taken every year. If it does, and all of ours do because I check to see if it is available, then the demand is strong enough to always take all the deposits (which is the case). In that situation, the deposit always makes money for RCI, so the trading power should be good.

I'm talking about over a period of many years.

However, that is not the case as our deposits for 2008 and 2009 have been devalued, as many are reporting. I am still searching with an empowered 2007 week.

Here's the same search as in post 4, using one of our devalued weeks:

A Total of 20 Resorts were found for FLORIDA/FLORIDA: RESORTS ON THE BEACH

Of the 20 resorts, 7 are in Daytona or Ormond, and most of the rest are lesser resorts in the SE. That is very surprising, and the difference between searching for June and January, as I normally do. I'll make a note.

                    Daytona/Ormond available

When I searched earlier this week something in Ormand and Dayton were available for my deposited week.

Right now the RCI system is down for maintenance. I will check again and let
you know what I see as available.

Knowing a perceived trading power prior to purchasing a timeshare would be valuable information. I am sure many experienced TS folks would say, its common sense. i.e.. Florida Gulf coast- summer week- strong trade power.

However many dont experience what trading power really means until they are trying to make an exchange for popular time/resort. Perhaps adding a speculated trading power ranking to the resort reviews would be something a moderator could consider.

                    Maybe on scale 1-10;

                    Speculated
                    exchange
                    ranking
                    Owned Week(s)- 1-4 = 8
                    5-20 = 5
                    20-34= 10 etc.. etc..

That will not change. The lesser traders will not be able to see the better resorts, more popular areas, and, sometimes, larger units.

That may seem like common sense, but, actually, the summer weeks at Gulf resorts from the Sarasota area (perhaps Tampa) on down, are actually a lesser peak than the Snowbird weeks, 1-16.

Nah, that would take all the fun out of it--the years of being in the dark, the eventual enlightenment, the denial, and, ultimately, the acceptance of reality.
