  • Tropical Sands Resort, Ft Meyers

Is anyone familiar with this resort? Reviews I've found are pretty old. The area sounds a bit quiet, but how far is it to "action" for the teens? Is parking an issue? How's the beach at the resort?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

we were there a few years ago. there is no beach at the unit. first ist is across the street from the beach and second there is a lagoon instead of a beach. you either walk across the lagoon or walk down around the lagoon to get to the beach. the units are nice two bedroom older units but most have no view. there is a pool and hottub, not much else and no activities. the climate is wonderful.

there was a long discussion on tug this summer and it got contentious because an owner did not like the things that were said.

Thanks, I was kind of afraid of all of the above. But i may well buy those non-stop Sarasota tickets for under $200 pp and hope for the best...

        Rented a unit

We rented a unit for a few nights a couple of years ago. I'd rate the unit average - nothing bad, but nothing spectacular. If you walk down the road or down the beach, you eventually get to the Holiday Inn which is where the main beach starts. Also stayed at Holiday Inn a few years ago. Lot of action there. There is also a shopping center on same side of street as resort.

I think kids would want to be more downtown. There is a bus that run frequently to downtown. Traffic can be very bad in busy season.

Been here annually for years now. Built in the early 1980's as a timeshare condo (i.e., it's not a converted motel). All units are 2BR and 1300 square feet. There is (fortunately, from my personal viewpoint) NO "action" either on site or anywhere nearby for teens --- the Times Square area at the other end of Estero Island (a few miles away) is where all the joints, tourist shops, noise, "action", etc. are concentrated (I guess I'm just a curmudgeon ).

I'll decline to enter or participate in the tiresome "lagoon" issue / non-issue.
I will instead just simply observe that the Gulf of Mexico is on the other side of the street (Estero Blvd.) on which Tropical Sands is located.

Parking at the resort is strictly limited to ONE vehicle per unit and no RV's, campers, etc. are permitted on the (limited parking space) premises.

Nice screened porches on all units, all with a commanding view of the high rise which is located right across the street, obscuring virtually all visual access to the Gulf from Tropical Sands Resort.

Anyone remember the movie Groundhog Day?

This resort is one of the many settlefors in the FMB area. (And, resorts that we are accustomed to staying at.)

The only Orlando/Branson-class, sorta-luxury resort in the area is Seawatch. It is not the Coconut Hyatt, Eagles Nest, Club Regency, South Seas, etc.

It's rating should be in the 6's, in the bottom half of SW FL resorts, more better and fewer worse.

A plus, as pointed out, is that it is located on the south end of Estero Island, away from the conglomeration of motorcycles and T-shirt and tatoo shops.

Having done some comparisons, the Snowbird weeks, 1-16, are good traders.
