  • At OLCC

Got a very nice unit in the East Village...top floor across from the pool. Everything was just dandy until I stepped out about an hour ago to run to the store. Oh my god! It STINKS...smells like a sewer. Turns out, there's a COMPOSTE FARM near here...when it's warm, it smells this way at night.

Are they kidding me? Have any of you ever experienced this at Orange Lake? Unbelieveable...we can't go outside at all, and everyone is walking around holding their noses. My neighbor told me that they didn't tell her about it until she bought here.

I've never heard any talk about sewer smells at OL...this is a new one.

Sorry to hear that - and it IS odd that others haven't posted before about it.
Might have to do with the time of year or the weather - it is probably worse after it rains

That's probably not a land fill. It's the natural swamp gas eminating into the air. We Floridians think of it as the sweet smell of home. LOL.

                  Thanks Lawren.

Well, the unit is nice, the weather is nice, and the people that we've met so far are nice. Everyone was wonderful at check-in. I'm from NYC, so I won't let a little stinking garbage ruin my vacation.

                  Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Hahhahahha - I pretty much always 'roll with the punches' and enjoy myself, too.
As long as the bathroom is clean, I am good to go!

What are your Thanksgiving plans - cooking at 'home' or eating out somewhere in Orlando?

                        New Yorkers are tough

We roll with it and make the best of a bad situation!

As far as Thanksgiving, it's just the three of us...DH and 4 year-old DD. We are doing the parks tomorrow thru Wed. Thurs I think that we'll either go to the beach or hang out around OL. I've never been to Daytona...I thought that the traffic might be light and it might be a good day to go. Any other suggestions for Thanksgiving would be helpful if anyone has any.

We hung out here today. River Island was fun...really though, my daughter liked the zero entry pool right here at the East Village just as well...wasn't warm enough though.

The east village buildings also border on the Animal Kingdom boundary line....lots of animals to .......smilawgs

we experienced the smell .....when we stayed there in january two years ago....

there was a strong "ammonia" smell at times if the wind was blowing in the right direction and it was damp outside...

                            Holly,

In answer to your original question, no, but there is an interesting discussion on Tug about this. I wonder how often this occurs as I have been to the resort probably 25 times since 2000 and I have never noticed any smell.

                              I've studied

You can only smell it in the East Village and it happens 10-15% of the time when the wind is from the East. It's a real problem...OLCC decided to build there anyway...it's well known by management. It was quite horrible, and if I had paid $30K for a timeshare next to raw sewage I would be furious. Since I was just a mere exchanger, I will just make a note to never exchange into the East Village. It's too bad for those folks.

It's a great resort otherwise, but my 3 year-old is telling everyone that "Florida was stinky".
