Hello everybody, I'd like to introduce myself. And ask about Florida.
Hello everybody, I'd like to introduce myself. And ask about Florida.
My name is Charles, and this is my first day at the Timeshare Forums. I'm trying to sort through timeshare properties in Florida and I was wondering if any of you could suggest a favorite?
It depends where you want to be!
There are plenty of deals out there. Be sure to check out redweek.com before you visit any of the timeshare sales pitches.
There are tons of deals to be had around the Disney area. redweek and places like ebay let you navigate to where you are looking to buy.
Then the experts here in the forum can help you with buying a timeshare if you want one that includes points.
Welcome! You came to the right place.

Hi Charles. Welcome to timeshareforums. There are a lot of nice timeshares in Florida. Are you looking to trade in, rent or buy? If you give us a little more detail I'm sure that we can help steer you in the right direction.

You may get some conflicting advice. It is important to recognize that we all have different priorities and this is reflected in our advice. Much of the advice will be the same but you will find times where one person likes a resort but another doesn't. I've provide you with no recommendation except one; that is, to enjoy your vacations.
To help you get an idea for which resort, you might wish to look at what you require (need) and desire (want).
Some questions to help narrow your focus include.
1) Are you traveling alone or do you have a family? IF you need a 3-bedroom or larger unit, you may be more limited on the resorts.
2) As noted by others, are you looking to be near theme parks, South Florida, beaches, etc.?
3) Are you planning on spending a lot of time at the resort in which cases the amenities may be important.
4) How close to the action of question 2 do you need to be?
5) Do you like to be in wide-open space resorts or do you prefer more compact, hotel-style resorts? Likewise, do you like being in multi-story units or single family dwellings?
I started visiting Florida in my former life, about 30 years ago.
In my present life, we bought Orlando timeshares 20 years ago, so became familiar with that neck of the swamps.
Because of business, we started trading into FL in Jan a couple years later, at first to the lesser, most available resorts. We have stayed in resorts in the NE (Ormond, Daytona, New Smyrna), Orlando/Kissimme, the Tampa Beach Areas, the Sarasota beach areas, SW FL (Sanibel/Captiva, Ft. Myers Beach, Bonita Beach, Vanderbilt Beach, Naples, and Marco Island), and Key West.
In 1997 I started searching FL myself on RCI.com. Eventually, I started searching SW FL for January almost every day. On March 27, 2002, I started recording the results of those searches FL/SW FL. Sometime between then and now, I added FL/Resorts on the Beach to my daily search, and recorded those.
I am acquainted with the resorts south of the line I have always considered to be the beginning of SW FL, the Caloosahatchee, or, to the layman, the opening to the Gulf at Ft. Myers. I am becoming more acquainted with the resorts north of there, and have become acquainted with all Resorts on the Beach, Orlando/Kissimmee, and other area, relative to availability, because of my daily searches. You will find my lengthy reports on the Florida boards here and on TUG.
Ask away.

Thanks everybody. I've been looking into a lot of the things you have been saying. I really appreciate your help. I need your advice yet again. My brother in law told me about this vacation deal and I was wondering if you could check it out.
I'm just trying to figure things out. Let me know if you think it's a good deal.

Charles I hope you don't work for global resorts and just tried to spam us. I removed the link.
