Any must see at St Augustine Fl?

Not spur of the moment people, the DW and I were looking through websites for our March trip to St Augustine.

DW is a history/social studies teacher. We will be doing some of the 'old city' stuff, but not sure what else we may or should do while there.

It looks as we will be there during their rib festival and a seafood festival. Two of my favorites.

What else should we try to do while there, the gator farm, the lightner museum, the tour buses, any shows see, any memories to get?
Is there any must see or do?

After further research, it looks as the Alligator Farm will be on the list. I have seen a lot of good reviews, but $20 seems like a lot, but supposed to be worth it.

Looks as I will finally get to do a Ghost Tour, but now I have to figure out if it is going to be the walking tour, the riding tour, or the sailing tour. You don't see the sites on the sailing tour, but you do get beer, wine or pop and stories by the capt and crew.

Wonder if there is any ocean fishing in March? Would love to do that sometime.

Since hubby is a history teacher I recommend "the fountain of youth" strictly for the fun of it. (Plus of course a drink from the fountain). Also recommend you take the trolley tour, it is off and on, good for a couple of days and riding through the town gives you an idea of where you might like to go (it is expensive however)

It's been a long time since my last trip there and much longer for other trips. What I remember is the Fort, Ripley's and the oldest house (if it is even still there).

Too bad I don't golf. Resort is on a golf course.

Will look into the fishing. Would love to hook onto something larger than a perch or sunny. May be interesting getting fish home if I do catch something.

We are staying at GRANDE VILLAS AT WORLD GOLF VILLAGE. It is a Bluegreen resort. Never been there, but supposed to be very nice. We are flying into Orlando, then driving to St. Augustine.

Wife has 2nd week in March as spring break from school, so that is when we go. I am so lucky, I don't have to think. I get told what to do and when to do it.

The Kennedy Space Center is only about a one-hour drive south.

There are places near Daytona Beach where you can take airboat rides on the St. Johns river to see alligators and local wildlife.

I just can't make up my mind if we should stay "in town" or at the beach! I so wish someone that has stayed in town would share their thoughts/experience.

We go there every March and/or April for 2 to 3 weeks. I would pick the beach over the city.

PS The GRANDE VILLAS AT WORLD GOLF VILLAGE is not in the City of St. Augustine. It is 8 miles north of historic St. Augustine off Interstate-95.

I did Kennedy with a friend when at Orlando last year. He wasn't impressed, I thought it interesting.

It may be interesting to go to Daytona. The DWs BFF (and woman that I almost belted at our wedding, but that is another story) is a big fan of the store ‘Bath Junkie’, so in addition to seeing the sites at Daytona, she would have to buy out the store.

I brought my Garmin 660 in the house last night, and set the location to the resort. I had it search under different categories: Attractions, Recreations, Shopping and Entertainment. If the information is up to date, there is lots of scrapbooking stores for the DW, the Publix is very close, there is an outlet store nearby with a couple stores that I will check out, and lots for the DW. We will visit the nearby winery. I am still looking into fishing, but it looks as the fish haven’t gotten active yet. I will bring only one kite to fly on the beach, just one of the two string kites. The four string kite is more complex for traveling and set up, but great to fly. Throw in the gator farm, the ghost tour, museums and a couple of other possible events, and I think our relaxing week has gotten pretty filled up.

As I write this, it is 14 deg below zero with a forcast high of -2. I just go through the day thinking of how much warmer it will be when we are in Florida.

We are now planning on stopping at KSC on the way home. I've read alot of reviews on TA about it and they are a completely mixed bag. Some love it, some hate it. Guess we will find out! This only came up as a stop as little girl's third grade class trip is there in May. For the price the school wants, 4 of us can go to KSC, do the special interactions and STILL spend less. Argh.

I did pull the trigger and rented a little cottage in town for our stay. This gives my elderly dad an interesting walk around area every morning while he waits impatiently for us lazy bones to get out of bed and take him for breakfast If we love the place we can come back for a beach stay in the future... we are only 4 hours away (south).

We have tentatively palnned: sunset sail on Schooner Freedom, Scenic Cruise during the day, fort, Old St. Augustine Village, Spanish Quarter, learn to surf, half day on fishing party boat, Castillo, Flager College and all the rest of the old city stuff, and LOTS of different ice cream places (Kilwin's, Marble Slab, Bruster's)! And at least one day at the beach I hope a week is long enough!
