Do they put you in the unit # on the confirm? If not, does anyone have experience with requesting/getting Gulf views? Anything else I should know?

  • #2
When I was there they put in the unit I was assigned, much to the owners chagrin. I ended up in a 2br overlooking the ocean. I met a lady at the pool who just couldn't understand how I got that unit as she was an owner and she couldn't get it. I was very nice and tried to explain that some owner must not have been able to go at the last minute, but then I couldn't resist telling her the week I paid $250 for is what I used. She thought I was lying. I told her about Tug (we weren't here then.) shaggy

You probably could have told her about TUG with out all the extras, did it make you feel better?

I told her in a nice way about resales and tug and how to work the system. I, unlike you, were very nice, in fact, I met her at the pool almost every day. BTW, did it make you feel better to be sarcastic & ugly to me AGAIN Leave me alone!!! shaggy

When we were there 6 years ago this June, we had an Ocean view on the second floor. Private steps to the deck/bar by the pool. We thought it was the best location to be. The view was better from our unit than from Mallery's Square. We did not request any specific unit - this was what we were assigned.

When we were there we had a stunning view of the back of the shed that houses the pool equipment - we're hoping for better when we go back in January. The good news is it's the type of place where you're out and about a fair bit.

Edited to ask: I just checked my RCI confirmation - it doesn't list a unit number, just 2 bedroom. Are you exchanging in through II?

I d/n have the confirm when I posted, but I see there is no unit number. I will keep my fingers crossed...

More likely that RCI will be collecting yet another cancellation fee from me, but I hope not - I haven't been back to Key West in more than 15 years.

My emailed unit requests were ignored. I really wanted a unit with a queen sized bed in the 2nd bedroom. They sent someone up to push the twin beds together and put queen sheets on them. We also had a view of the shed but we were high enough that we could see the harbor over the pool.

Although it's a great location and I'm happy to go back there, the front desk staff were, in my opinion, among the most surly I've encountered. I'm a pretty friendly person but it was hard to coax much out of them.

I too called and make a politely worded request. When I called the day ahead to confirm, I was told that, "We don't really keep track of requests like that." I wasn't impressed, they could have at least lied to make me feel better - LOL!!

Great location and nice, comfortable units, which is all you need in Key West.

That has always been the word, that they ignored requests. They ignored my emails, too.

Let's see, the pool shed view would be near the hot tub, huh?

I could be a little foggy on this, but it seems like I remember that all straight 2-bedroom units are Gulfview, facing the beachette and fairly tall building next door blocking the Gulfview. But, then, if you included the cell-like studio units of the lock-offs on the Byte side, they would be 2-bedroom units, too, wouldn't they?

FWIW, there is an observation deck on the roof, above the fishing area.

However nice you think you may have said it, this statement says a lot about you:

kinda like bragging about dogs urinating in a Motel6.
