  • Sanibel Island resorts

To all you timeshare experts out there, I know I'll get some good answers to my burning questions about Florida.
Husband and I want to take a belated honeymoon in January or February 2008. We've already given up our Cabo San Lucas week for the exchange through Interval, and are now waiting to get something good in Florida!

We've put in requests for 3 places in Key West (Banyan Resort, Hyatt Beach House Resort, and Coconut Beach Resort), and are now adding some Sanibel Island Resorts: Tortuga Beach Club Resort, Casa Ybel, Caribe Beach Resort, and Shell Island.

I am welcoming any and all feedback folks may have about those resorts! Thanks a million.

Don't know if you'd have any interest in adding Marco Island, as well......If so, Hyatt Coconut Plantation Resort, Marriott's Crystal Shores on Marco Island, Surf Club of Marco Island, & Eagle's Nest on Marco Beach are all premier resorts.

    Good luck, and happy honeymooning!!!!
    Angela

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

We stayed at the Caribe Beach Resort on a Getaway (II) and enjoyed it, but it is a former motel converted to a timeshare so you may not want to exchange into it. If you got the Spinnaker Cottage, that would be nice, but you probably won't.

Why don't you add Sanibel Beach Club I, Sanibel Beach Club II, Lighthouse Resort and Club to your list?

The Banyan is a great choice. If I were you, I would also add The Galleon and the Hyatt Sunset Harbor to your wish list. It may be a little late to get your exchange there, but it doesn’t hurt to try, and their location, in my opinion, is far better than your other two choices in Key West.

You should also try for the Captiva resorts: Plantation Beach Club, the Cottages, and the other South Seas Timeshares. Also try the Sanibel Cottages amd Hurricane House on Sanibel. The more the better your chances are since it is vey difficult to get Sanibel/Captiva in the peak season.

I think you want to take a belated honeymoon in Jan or Feb of 2009. Right!!!
The Hyatt in Key West is my choice because of the location to the cruise port area.

I don't think the Banyan is that good of a choice but as Tom has said better than the other two in Key West cause HBH is located at the city limits of Key West so you are far from the action unless you have a car & can pay the $10 a day to park while you are in Old Town or take the taxi's, which can be high from point-to-point or walk it but ya better be healthy! HBH is a great property with 2 bedroom units, its just that they are far away from the everything almost. Hyatt Windward Pointe is another suggestion but like HBH, its a little ways from the action as well but what a beautiful place.

The Galleon is a great choice & you may have a chance at getting what ya want & I really do agree with Tom bout HSH but the chance of you acquiring a unit there is almost impossible as we owned at HSH but its the place!

You're looking for peak season and searching relatively late. Some people probably traded for weeks in this area at the beginning of the year (assuming you are looking for Jan/Feb 2009).

I would definitely broaden my search and/or have a hotel reservation as a backup plan.

Just a little warning, many of the timeshares on Sanibel are smaller, and their offices are not open 24 hours a day. Many are 8 or 8:30 AM until 5 PM. That's a problem if you arrive later, and haven't made arrangements.

Those that close early have a lockbox that contains the keys of those units whose keys have not been picked up. If you will arrive late, let them know and they will give you the combination so you can access them after the office has closed.
