  • Calini Beach Club - Siesta Key?

Anyone been here lately? All the reviews I have found were pretty old. Is there things to do in this area?

I had read that the Hyatt is building close by, will this effect the resort?

    Thanks!

Lots to do here!! What do you like to do?

We have the BEST beach for walking and shell hunting, three miles of flat, fine, cool never hot, white sand. Calini has beach chairs and toys to use in utility room. Resort has large pool, bikes to use on island's bike paths. Walk one block to restaurants, grocery, rent kayaks and boats to travel on the intra coastal water form Bradenton Beach to Venice.

We've owned at Calini since 1985, loved vacationing here, and retired to a condo here on the island's south end 3 years ago.

Views are affected by new Hayatt. Building started this summer and is 5 stories. Units mostly affected are -06, -05, and partially -04.

I agree with Sherry. Plenty to do if you like watersports. The beach is the best, IMO. Sugar white sand. Depending when you go, there will be construction noise from the Hyatt. I think there is another TS property getting started next door too. But, that wouldn't keep me away.

The project "next door", actually across a small street, is supposedly a fractional lodging. Right now they're not doing much there.....some of the old roofs are off, and a couple of workmen walking around. This could change, though. Yesterday, the workers left around 3:30 p.m., just as we were riding past. Don't know what time they start working.
I'll try to remember to take a picture of the Hyatt and attach here tomorrow.

Nice area, nice beach . . . almost always in the Top Ten.

We still prefer further south, tho.

Photos taken today, Oct. 11,2008, from Calini's sun deck, 4th floor between units 403 and 404.
Second picture is taken from 2nd floor, between units 203 and 204.
Oops! 2nd floor pic is sideways!

                  Thanks Sherry! those are GREAT!

I think we are going to nab this one ...

Last question ... is there stuff to do for a teenager there, in the area? He will be 15 at the time we go. We'll probably bring a friend too.

When my 3 boys were teens, they loved it there! They brought friends, too. I think they liked heading off on their own walking to the near-by shops/7 Eleven, biking or walking down to Turtle beach for fishing or shelling (south), biking to the Village (north end of key, lots of action there), fishing on the intra-coastal (2 blocks from Calini), doing the beach walk to the public beach (north) beach volleyball and tennis, renting kayaks (1 block away) to use on gulf or intra-coastal waters.

                    Have fun!!
