  • Holiday Inn and Orange Lake

I saw an article in Timesharing Today that InterContinental Hotel Group Plc ( Holiday Inn) has formed a licensing and marketing alliance with the Orange Lake resorts in order to create the "Holiday Inn Vacation Club". The article indicated that Orange Lake would still manage the resort.

The new brand will launch in December with the reflagging of Orange Lake's 1400 acre golf course, water park, etc. Orange Lake's properties in Vermont, Wisconsin and Panama City Fl will also be rebranded.

Apparently, Orange Lake will retain ownerhsip and operations control as a private held company.

Has there been a previous discussion of this that I missed? Sounds like new opportunities for Orange Lake owners to change their ownership into another timeshare club/system.

Sounds like a rebranding of their Global Points product to me but what do I know?

        Holiday Inn Club Vacations....

This has been in the works for some time now, and provided much of the impetus for the development of their point system.. The Wilson family created both companies, so the branding agreement didn't get much opposition.

I'm still on the fence as to whether this will be a major benefit to Orange Lake. Holiday Inn gets a good location for their new Orlando-area hotel which will be built on Orange Lake property, and Orange Lake gets branding and the ability to exchange into motel stays..

However, while the Holiday Inn brand still ranks high in name recognition- will it's demographic translate into a "working man's timeshare product" or will it end up being viewed as a low end product?

On a side note- Orange Lakes in-house pt conversions are said to up to about 35% now... Their in-house sales are the envy of the Orlando market right now!

There's a chuckle rumbling around deep down inside.

Must be Kemmons Wilson still at work, pulling off another deal.

So much for OL owners claim that the Wilson family is outta the picture.

Since you brought it up, the "working man's" angle, the last time we we there, and saw the prospects riding around on golf carts, OL has been the "working man's" timeshare for quite some time.

Definitely not the Country Club set.

Then again, aren't timeshares for those who can't afford their own vacation homes scattered around?

I saw this announcement awhile back. I still see nothing good in it for OLCC owners other unless devaluing the image of OLCC and the possible raising of maintenance fees is considered good.

An irony here is that after Wilson left Holiday Inn and started Orange Lake, he attempted to create another hotel chain called Wilson World that apparently didn't fare too well as I have never heard of them except on OLCC television system promoting OLCC.

Ah, The Mentalist at work :

OLCC - "Welcome to Holiday Inn Club"? - Timeshare Users Group Online Community Forums

"I just came back from my usual week there. My week coincided with the annual owner's meeting, which I attended, and Spence Wilson himself announced this was an attempt to reunite Holiday Inn and Orange Lake (both founded by the Wilson family)."

I would like to be a fly on the wall at a revised TS sales presentation, the section where they compare TSing to hotels and motels.

May be it would go something like, "If you stay at our hotel (motel), you get daily maid service, new towels every day, you don't have to do your own laundry, you don't have to take out your trash, we carry your bags to your room for you, and we cook for you."

Or, you could buy a Villa, for $30,000, plus $600 per year, and do all that yourself.

It appears to me that OLCC retains OLCC for weeks but has a separate pool with different resort IDs in RCI Points utilizing the Holiday Inn brand Name.

Gary referred to that in my thread asking for OLCC volunteers to do comparative searching.

I hadn't seen it (OLCC) prior to today in RCI Points though.

Remind me to not meet you for tea. Intolerable when folks don't have their pinkies just so...

Holiday Inn Vacation Club at Orange Lake

Just noticed that there are new signs and flags with Holiday Inn
logo at the entrance to Orange Lake and Publix`s on Route 192

Wonder what they are offering in exchange
for doing their timeshare sales presentation
