Ruby Tuesday is a chain headquartered near here. They have closed two of the local locations in the last couple of months. Don't know how many are gone nationwide, but they are definitely cutting back. Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news.

A fraternity brother of mine started another chain in your area, Clearwater to be specific.

      Guess which one?

        Hi JLB,

If this is directed to me, I'm in Tennessee.

        Maybe I misread your message.

          Sorry, a Senor moment.

Without looking back I mistook you for Nancy.

          Same question for Clearwater, FL.

(PS: There are at least two major chains from the Tampa Area).

            How about Hooters or Outback.

Yup, that would be the two.

Here's my frat bro, Ed Droste:

I've never been to a Hooters, but we enjoy Outback from time to time.

Ed has always been a goer and a doer. He was President of Boys State and President of his class at Moo U. He is a major player in our fraternity still, making large donations and matching others.

He and some others from the fraternity went to FL to get rich, and struggled. The way it was told in the Des Moines Register, he and some Waverly, IA friends brainstormed the basic Hooters concept, a place guys might like to go hang out, and opened a place in Clearwater. When it did not sail, Ed resorted to tactics like putting on a chicken suit and performing out by the road.

Two of the group that went to Florida are no longer with us. One had his ashes scattered in the Gulf.

One of the others wound up as a US Homes/Lennar President, and not long ago moved on from that to another project. Jeff, I believe I still have one of your sweaters that I borrowed.

                  All great guys. Good Iowans.

We had our annual Shells fix today and it was great. I forget how much better it is than Led Robster.

                          Anna Maria Island

What better way to experience Florida dining and fresh seafood

than to pair it with a tropical frozen cocktail and a beautiful sunset
from inside the dining room or outside on the covered deck
while looking out on the white sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.

One of our favorite restaurants in the 1980s
was located on Anna Maria Island in Florida.
Forgot what the restaurant was named back then
It was located on the Northern tip of the island.

Still have the photos of our Black Mustang Convertible with
the top down parked across from the restaurant with the
beach and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in the background.

If it is peanuts on the floor that excite you, there are other chains that have this. Personally, I don't like peanuts on the floor.

Shells is no longer a chain. There is just one, the original one, run by the original owners. Original menu.

They were not involved in the chain ones.

No peanuts on the floor any more. I had that conversation with one of the founders last Friday night.
